If you want a dedicated call controller with active noise cancellation and a streamlined workflow for Microsoft Teams, choose Jabra Engage 50; if you need superior audio fidelity, a longer cable for workspace flexibility, and advanced acoustic processing for crystal-clear voice transmission, choose Hewlett Poly Blackwire 3325. Both headsets are built for the modern professional who demands reliability, but they solve different problems in distinct ways. One prioritizes the control interface and silence, while the other focuses on the raw quality of sound and the freedom of movement within a desk setup.
• Jabra Engage 50: Its biggest strength is the integrated Link Call Control Unit that offers tactile volume wheels, mute buttons, and a programmable Busylight for seamless collaboration; its trade-off is the shorter cable length inherent to the USB-C wired design compared to competitors.
• Hewlett Poly Blackwire 3325: Its biggest strength is the 7-foot cable and advanced Dynamic EQ plus Acoustic Fence technology that delivers rich stereo audio and unmatched voice clarity; its trade-off is the lack of a physical external controller unit, relying instead on inline or software controls.
• Who it's for: The Jabra pick suits contact center agents or heavy Teams users who need visual status indicators and quick physical access to call functions without looking at their screen.
• Who it's for: The Poly pick fits professionals who prioritize immersive sound quality, need to move around their office without tripping over wires, and value sophisticated noise-canceling microphone technology.
The Jabra Engage 50 II is designed for the user who treats their headset as a command center rather than just an audio output device. The standout feature here is undoubtedly the Link Call Control Unit. This small black box sits on your desk and transforms how you interact with your calls. It features a dedicated wheel for volume control, which is far more intuitive than fumbling with keyboard shortcuts or software sliders during a busy meeting. You also get a button for call management—answer, end, hold—and a re-programmable speed dial button that can be customized for specific contacts or platforms. For anyone drowning in back-to-back meetings, having these physical controls right at your fingertips changes the daily rhythm of work.

Another critical element for the Jabra Engage 50 is the MS Teams certification paired with the LED Busylight. When the light glows purple, you are connected; when it pulses, you have a notification; and when it turns green, you are actively on a call. This visual feedback loop is invaluable in open-plan offices or home environments where family members or roommates might otherwise interrupt you. The Active Noise Cancellation further isolates you from the chaos of the background, ensuring you stay focused on the conversation at hand. It is a headset that demands attention to your immediate task by physically blocking out distractions and visually signaling your availability.
However, this level of integration comes with specific constraints. The design relies heavily on the USB-C connectivity and the included controller unit, which adds a bit of bulk to your desktop setup. While the ear placement is on-ear with an over-ear enclosure shape made of plastic, it is optimized for comfort during long shifts but lacks the wireless freedom some users crave. If you are someone who needs to walk away from your desk frequently, the wired nature and the separate controller unit might feel restrictive. Furthermore, while the frequency range covers the standard 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, the primary focus here is clearly on communication clarity rather than music production. This headset is for the professional who lives in their calendar and needs a robust, tangible interface to manage their day efficiently.
The Hewlett Poly Blackwire 3325 takes a different approach, prioritizing the purity of the audio experience and the freedom of movement provided by its cabling. At the heart of this device is the 7-foot cable. In a practical sense, this is a game-changer for anyone with a larger workspace, a standing desk, or a tendency to pace while thinking through complex problems. That extra length means you aren't tethered tightly to your computer tower or laptop port. You can stretch across your desk to grab a whiteboard marker or reach a filing cabinet without the tension of a short wire pulling your equipment off the edge. This flexibility makes it an excellent choice for dynamic work environments where you aren't glued to a single chair.
When it comes to sound, the Poly Blackwire 3325 leverages sophisticated engineering to deliver what the brand calls "Poly signature audio." The stereo audio driver provides rich, immersive sound, supported by Dynamic EQ and Digital Signal Processing. These technologies work together to ensure that your voice sounds natural and clear, regardless of the acoustics of the room you are in. The inclusion of SoundGuard Technology protects your hearing from sudden loud spikes, while the Acoustic Fence Technology helps isolate your voice from background noise. The omni-directional boom microphone rotates to fit your face perfectly, ensuring that your words are captured with precision. If you are on calls all day and care deeply about how you sound to others, or if you enjoy high-quality multimedia alongside your work, this headset delivers a premium listening experience that feels less utilitarian and more refined.
Despite these strengths, the lack of a physical call controller unit means you lose the tactile convenience of a dedicated volume wheel and mute button sitting right on your desk. Instead, you rely on the inline controls or software settings, which requires a slightly different interaction style. The design is sleek and on-ear, but it does not include the same visual status indicators like the flashing lights found on the Jabra model. You will need to check your screen or listen for tones to know your call status. Additionally, while the impedance is optimized for various devices, the 32 Ohm rating suggests it is tuned specifically for the audio chain of modern computers and phones rather than high-end audio equipment. This headset is for the professional who values a clean, uncluttered desk, prioritizes the quality of their voice and audio, and wants the ability to move freely within their workspace without being hindered by short cables.
