Ive been trying to memorize nitnem and I am stuck on Jaap Sahib. I want to memorize gurbani so I can sit an aasan and just recite gurbani to . Any tips how this can be accomplished? I heard a katha where the kathavaachak said that only those who come under Guru Gobind Singh's vision are able to memorize Jaap Sahib so this made it a bigger challenge for me mentally. Help appreciated. Thank You!

though i have not memorized it - i did try and managed to memorize half of it. Go to gurmatveechar.com and download bhai jarnail singhj's jaap sahib recitation. then basically keep listening to it. you have to listen to it a lot and recite the bani in synchronization with him. also regularly read jaap sahib. after about a month ot two you will learn it off by heart but then you have to regularly do about 2 jaap sahib otherwisw you will forget it. The other option is to find jaap sahib in a musical form and do the same as above. you really have to listen to it a lot either way, easily 10 times a day

with Gods grace I have memorised it a couple of years back, here is a good idea , u cant do it all at once, stanza by stanza, recite one stanza all day or all week (in addition to doing the path from the gutka) and that way you will learn it , however long it takes but stanza by stanza. here is an audio which will help. also know the meaning of what u say, here is an english katha with word by word translation in simple english of jaap sahib, it is taken from Prof Sahib Singh Jis nitnem steek and all the words are broken down to their roots and than a meaning is also done line by line here are two videos, one of jaap sahib in easy audio just follow the links and one of jaap sahib english katha

How did they accomplish this and do the other things that they did? Did they sit in asana and recite all 101 in one go, or did they recite them in parts? I have heard the claim that they were able to do this jaap while walking, talking, fighting jungs, because they had trained their minds to "resonate" with this bani automatically or because they only slept a few hours a day. (I estimate it would take me about 13.5 hours at reasonable speed without taking any breaks or doing anything else.)

its all about how introspective you are.......the mind is so fast it makes the intel duo core processor look like a skoda racing a concorde aeroplane.......Baba Ishar Singh Ji rara sahibvale would do a sukhmani sahib in 25 minutes

I think it was faster than that, but never mind. Even today, at Sant Ji's asthaan in Hapur, there are savadars who do 101 Jap Ji Sahibs every night, then seva all day long. Mahapursh explained to me that it's done 'surti-duara'. The surti is incredibly fast, but needs to be brought under control. Think about how fast you can picture anything in your mind.....

From personal experience of doing the 10 Jap Ji Sahibs per day for 40 days that Sant Jagjit Singh Harkhowale sometimes recommends, my concentration improved dramatically (nothing like you are describing, though) but swiftly dropped down to base level again when the 40 days were over and I went back to my usual routine.

sant gurbachan Singh ji said abhyas of muharni is bhajan. through abhyaas the sounds flow quicker and are more accurate as well. this has the added benefit that accuracy has an effect on the laha we get.

Main thing is to try to make an effort to listen very carefully in your mind when doing those Paaths. At first concentration is not there and the minds runs from one thought to another. Bani is Mantra roop. TRY to listen and concentration will also increase along with the speed.

I've also heard, puratan Sants and Singhs also used to do sukhmani sahib every fast with pranayam technique complete 24 asthpadi in 24 breaths, by holding each breath and do manas jap of each ashtpadi. They were able to concentrate fully as breath is locked in with mind.

This is how I did paath daily. At university, I encountered a bhai sahib who was doing katha in English and said how Guru Ji only hears the paath we do if we do it with full concentration and we can hear it ourselves internally. After that, I would spend 20-30 mins doing just one japji sahib but concentrating on it as best as I could.

Not to discourage you, but there's that Sakhi about the Nitnemi Gursikh who recited Japji 21 times a day. The one who said the bricks would stay kachi. I think it might take you all day to do forty Jajpji Sahib and 2 Sukhmani Sahib. Which would be epic but that's big focus Veer Ji. 152ee80cbc
