Robotics Exploration

Greetings-

I am a middle/high school computer science teacher at a small charter school in NH. We are a very new school, only in our 3rd year, which is exciting because I get to create the curriculum from scratch. I love learning... I may even be addicted to learning new things. I love to go hiking in the summer, spend time at the beach, and scrapbook adventures I take with my two kids.

This semester I am exploring the use of robotics in the k-12 classroom. EdTech 597 at Boise State is a project based class that I am hoping will give me the necessary skills to add robotics to our computer science course offerings at the school I currently teach at. At the present time I have limited experience with robotics. About a two years ago, I explored Lego Mindstorms NXT version that was sitting in a closet at school working through the tutorials built into the software. I haven't done anything beyond following the step-by-step instructions. I would like to use the EV3 for this class, however, I'm waiting for the kits from the schools robotics club, I am not sure which one they have. I am hoping his course will bring me a step further to thinking out of the box and finding a way to incorporate these into our middle/high school computer science curriculum. I hope the portfolio documentation of the journey I am embarking on during the Spring of 2017.

Best,

Joanna Marcotte
