The Dresden Dolls' 'My Alcoholic Friends' techno-cabaret electronica reflects the relationship between two close companions, both of whom find solace in each other's quaffing of alcoholic beverages. The brumal soundscape swirls with melodious synths and dissonant tones, merging together to create a beclouded yet strangely uplifting melody. The piece evokes a sense of apathy, contentment and stupefied resignation in the face of adversity, further reinforced by the despairing yet inviting vocals of lead singer and keyboardist Amanda Palmer.

This whimsical rollercoaster of emotional turmoil is all the more striking presented as a ringtone, the familiar rise and fall of the melodic hum inherently symbolising the emotional cycles of the interconnected friends. As a result, 'My Alcoholic Friends' allows us to take a rare glimpse into a life which is rarely presented as a soundtrack tone, inviting us to experience a series of undiscovered, and perhaps unenviable, emotions.

As a college student and waiter who forgets to silence his phone, this has saved me from death glares from professors and customers when my phone goes off. Works great for movie theaters and office meetings. While yes, people will notice the sound, they will not necessarily know what it was or where it came from. I know there is the damn mosquito ringtone that "old people" can't hear, but I'd soon rather have my ringtone be a fire alarm than use that.

Imagining a horror movie (recently saw A Quiet Place) where only those with the kiddie voice ringtones all die, but only the viewer gets it right from the start. The colleagues have all been trained to couch their annoyance and focus on rational factors; except maybe two childless workers who can only feel the irritation factors but suppress that idea because they need not only their jobs but their social credits for continued and promotional work. It garners scathing reviews for its filmic work, but audiences love it, and it passes the Bechdel test.

My guess is that the boss is too passive to deal with the general ringtone situation and only singled out the LW because she received a complaint about that particular ringtone. Otherwise, why not just ask the LW (and everyone) to put their phone on vibrate?

My ringtone is Baroque Hoedown, an early synthesizer composition by groundbreaking electronic artists Kingsley & Perry which Disneyland later used as the theme song to the popular and long running Main Street Electrical Parade.

Oh God, ringtones. I had a coworker who never put hers on silent, always left it on her (cubicle) desk when she was somewhere else, and had a husband who would never leave a message, just kept calling until she picked up. A couple of times I had to go find her and demand she make it stop. 006ab0faaa
