Plenary Talk Speakers
Russell Cross is Professor of Languages and Literacies Education at the University of Melbourne, where he previously served as Associate Dean (Research) and co-led the Languages and Literacies Education Academic Group in the Faculty of Education. His research focuses on sociocultural and Vygotskian perspectives on teacher thinking, professional knowledge, and classroom practice, particularly in languages and literacies education. Russell leads the CLIL Teacher Education Lab (clil.education.unimelb.edu.au). Recent publications include Content and Language Integrated Teaching (2020), the AILA Review special issue (In)equity Issues in CLIL (2022), and Social Justice Dispositions in Schools (2025). He sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Immersion and Content Based Language Education and TESOL in Context.
Shu Ohki is a lecturer in Language and Literacy Education at the Faculty of Education, the University of Melbourne, specialising in languages teacher education and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) pedagogy. His research interests focus on investigating language teachers’ professional knowledge and practice using Cultural Historical Activity Theory.
Member's Talk Speaker
Makoto Ikeda is Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of English Linguistics and Language Education in the Department of English Studies at Sophia University. He graduated from the Department of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University, and completed his postgraduate studies at Sophia University and King’s College London, University of London. His research interests include English linguistics and English language teaching (ELT). His publications include An Introduction to Historical Sociolinguistics (Taishukan Shoten, co-authored) and Soft CLIL and English Language Teaching (Routledge, co-authored), among others. He also serves as an editorial board member for the New Horizon English Course (junior high school textbooks published by Tokyo Shoseki) and Flex English Communication (senior high school textbooks published by Zoshindo). He is the former President of J-CLIL.
