IWSST 2021

The First International Workshop on Smart Society Technologies

November 8, 2021 Oita, Japan Online

In conjunction with Mobiquitous 2021

Important Notice

IWSST 2021 workshop will be held as a fully-fledged online conference. The conference will take place online in a livestream with Zoom Meeting due to the safety concerns and travel restrictions caused by COVID-19.

IWSST 2021 is a forum to discuss technologies and applications that solve relevant problems in modern society and thus contribute to the evolution of our society into a super-smart society. In a super-smart society, cyberspace (virtual space) and physical space (real space) are interconnected and mutually support each other. To enable such a future society, we need to develop a wide range of smart society technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), big data (data processing and analytics), Internet of Things (IoT), privacy-preserving data handling, robotics (e.g., robot-supported elderly care), etc., low-energy communication, mobility (e.g., self-driving vehicles), healthcare, well-being, disaster response, cyber-physical systems. Therefore, in this workshop, we solicit submissions that contribute new techniques and ideas to enabling the vision of Society 5.0.

We expect submissions and participation from both graduate students and young researchers. Society 5.0 is an emerging vision of a future society, and it is essential for the research community to hold discussions on the research directions and issues that need to be addressed. The scope of the Society 5.0 vision includes all members of society, but today’s young generation will be the ones who experience the transformative changes directly. Therefore, young researchers could contribute valuable opinions to shaping the ongoing research on Society 5.0.

The workshop will be organized in a manner that fosters interaction and exchange of ideas among the participants. Besides paper presentations, we will also allocate time for group discussion. We plan to have 2 groups: one for on-premises participants and one for virtual participants. This format will help young researchers obtain valuable feedback about their work.
