21st International Workshop
on Atmospheric Icing of Structures
Sapporo, Japan
The International Workshop on Atmospheric Icing of Structures (IWAIS) will take place in Sapporo, Japan, from August 17-20, 2026. On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), we are honored to host IWAIS 2026.
In cold regions, atmospheric icing on structures causes damage to power lines, towers, aircraft, railways, roads, and other structures, and is an important factor in operational safety and optimal design. IWAIS is one of the most important international workshops presenting the latest research, developments, and new knowledge on the atmospheric icing phenomenon and its effects on structures. IWAIS has a long history spanning 44 years. The first IWAIS was held in Hanover, USA in 1982, and IWAIS 2026 marks the 21st time it has been held.
Japan has been a long-standing participant in IWAIS and hosted the meeting twice in Japan. The last time in Yokohama in 2007. IWAIS 2026 will therefore be the third workshop to be held in Japan in 19 years.
IWAIS 2026 is jointly organized by the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice and Japanese Society for Snow Engineering, with enthusiastic support from Hokkaido University of Science. During these four days, colleagues from academia, government, and industry from around the world will present, discuss, and exchange information atmospheric icing.
A detailed schedule of events associated with IWAIS 2026 will be posted on this web site shortly.
