Search

The World Wide Web (WWW) has billions of pages of information, you can search for any occurrence of a word or phrase just by typing the word. To search for a phrase please use quotes eg. "host of golden daffodils".

Please be careful with what you search for, it is all there the Good, Bad and the Ugly. You may have too many results ("host of golden daffodils" gave 100,00 results.) Be happy with the first page of results and then perhaps, refine your search term.

Once you have your page of results please tap an entry and you will be taken to the web site.

Search Engines

There are many Search engines I have included just four here. The most popular is Google which has about half a million hits to its site every second.

To search the Internet you first have to think of a word.

• Staying with a theme lets try daffodil
• Each of the search engines on the right will work, tap the underlined word.
• Tap each one, a keypad will magically appear, key in the word daffodil,
• Then tap [Enter] the big key on the right of the key pad.

• Duck Duck Go is a more private Search engine, some people prefer this.
• Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia, you search here for encyclopedic articles not words. Try searching for - Freshwater, Isle of Wight - and learn about our village.
• Wolfram Alpha. This one has numbers as answers. Example, How many cars in uk? Ans: 27.5 million.
