Chloe Bullock of Materialise Interiors
Chloe Bullock is the founder of Materialise Interiors, Brighton-based B Corp certified interior design company. Named as PETA’s Compassionate Designer in their Vegan Homeware Awards and awarded the British Institute of Interior Design’s Merit Award 2025 for services to the interior design profession.
Chloe has written a book Sustainable Interior Design, commissioned by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) launched in the Spring of 2024. The book covers the various approaches to a sustainable interior design, with the goal of inspiring the interior design industry to work in a more conscious way, with a lessened impact.
Working for clients in South East England and further away - online, Chloe supports project teams with advice on circular and regenerative design solutions - sourcing and material specification. She recently took part in the first cohort for the Department of Education ‘Skills Bootcamp in Circular Economy’ pilot and is Circular Economy Institute accredited - Trained level. She has studied Regenerative Design and is Living Future Accredited (Living Building Challenge). Both courses have enabled her to support projects where we can improve and enhance, delivering projects that go beyond interiors and regeneratively include the surrounding land and communities to demonstrate "what good looks like".. She is a keen follower of human-centric, healthy design principles - using standards such as WELL building standard, and FitWel® to ensure spaces are healthy for the users.
Prior to setting up her own company in 2005, she spent 10 years as part of The Body Shop team delivering ethical store concepts and specifications globally. Her ongoing commitment to environmental awareness, sustainability using circular economy principles and cruelty-free specifications learnt at The Body Shop, has translated into her own interior design business, even to the extent that her business gained B Corp Certification in April 23.
She is a co-founder and Founding Signatory for Interior Design Declares - the interior design industry's commitment in response to climate breakdown and biodiversity collapse. In 2025 she was voted onto the Council of Directors for the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID by members). She served a full term on the Sustainability Committee which delivered a Sustainability Strategy for the professional body. Recently Chloe co-wrote the brand new upgrade of the BIID Sustainable Specification Guide (renamed ‘Responsible Specifying Toolkit’).
Chloe was the first interior designer in the UK to be VEGANDESIGN.ORG CERTIFIED™ and has gone on to co-found the International Vegan Interior Design Association (IVIDA) in 2024. She has been in the design industry for over 30 years after graduating in Furniture and Product Design in 1993 from Nottingham Trent University, going on to win the New Designer’s consumer product design award.
