A Life Collected. A Landscape Reinterpreted.
This living room is shaped by the meeting of a collected urban sensibility and the elemental landscape of the Ozarks. Rather than recreating either place literally, the design translates the surrounding forests, lakes, stone and light into a contemporary material palette, layered with objects collected through travel and a lifetime of creativity.
Natural forms drive every major design decision. Exposed timber beams connect the home to the surrounding woodland, while wide oak floorboards in varying widths introduce the natural irregularity and rhythm of the forest underfoot. The sculptural Japanese black pine continues this architectural interpretation of nature, celebrating asymmetry, age and resilience.
The antico verde looking fireplace becomes the room’s geological focal point. Deep mineral greens intersected by golden fissures reference fractured rock, mineral deposits and the verticality of the region’s stone formations. Its dramatic appearance is achieved through printed glass, offering a more responsible alternative to specifying large expanses of decorative quarried stone. The standing boulder, boulder-shaped rug and topographic coffee table continue this language, abstracting geology and flowing water into sculptural interior elements.
Lighting reinforces the same dialogue with nature: a crystalline selenite wall light evokes mineral formations, the floor lamp resembles shafts of filtered light and the free-form pendant captures the movement of branches and vines overhead. Warm rust upholstery anchors the palette in the colours of earth, iron-rich soil and weathered stone.
Collected vintage pieces and travel finds add provenance and permanence. The patinaed vase, vintage Jeanneret bench and outdoor sculpture introduce history and individuality, reflecting a home that has evolved over time rather than been furnished all at once.
Throughout the project, sustainability is embedded in the specification process: incorporating vintage furniture, exclusively vegan and responsibly considered materials and thoughtful alternatives where conventional luxury materials would rely on unnecessary extraction or animal-derived products.
The result is a home where landscape, craftsmanship and collected objects are unified through a calm, contemporary design language—grounded in place, but deeply personal.
