Research Statement

I study market power at the intersection of macroeconomics and industrial organization. Output market and labor market power harm welfare and reduce efficiency. What are the causes and consequences of market power? How has it evolved over time? How does this inform appropriate competition policy? I approach these questions both in theory and in practice. I study the theoretical interpretation of commonly-used estimators of market power and develop a method to estimate market power with revenue data in my working papers with James Traina. From the empirical side, my job market paper uses these tools to investigate labor and output market power in the US manufacturing industry
