Jerusalem is a holy city for Jews, Christians and Muslims, but why did it become, “the prime place on Earth for God to meet man”?
Episode 1: Simon Sebag Montefiore tells the story of the city from ancient times to the present day and explores its importance in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. He begins in the era of the Canaanites, when Jerusalem first came to be regarded as a sacred site, and examines the evidence that King David made it a Jewish city. He also discusses the construction of the First Temple by Solomon, the life and death of Jesus Christ, and the expulsion of the Jews by the Romans.
