Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you'd like to transfer the content from your broken iPhone to a new iPhone, correct? If so, we'll do everything we can to help out. Do you know if you have a recent backup in iCloud or on a computer? If so, you can certainly restore either to a new device by following the below link.

It would make sense that it's faster because last I heard lightning is limited to USB 2 speed - though using a Wifi 6 connection to the Mac might be faster than an iCloud restore due to the fact that most of the data will be within the Intranet which should yield lower latency and higher throughput.

Quick Start transfers everything, is quick and efficient. Make sure you have all services turned in Settings > Your Name, iCloud, etc. on your current phone. Make sure to backup your current phone before you do the transfer. Then just let Quick Start do it's magic.

Chances are the scan of the constellation on the old phone transferred bluetooth parameters, and a bluetooth exchange got enough data to tell your old phone was backed up to iCloud, and connected using your AppleID and passcode (or some other security token) to begin the restore.

I realize that a backup probably doesn't have the OS or apps backed up (which will be redownloaded from the store), but the remaining app data certainly (and media probably) actually exist in the backup and have to be restored. I don't remember how long it took last time, though I may have just let it go for as long as it took.

* To erase your device that's using iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, tap Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Erase All Content and Settings. On iOS or iPadOS 14 or earlier, tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. This erases all data on your device. After you erase it, your device restarts and the "Hello" screen appears.

After you transfer to your new iOS or iPadOS device, you might need to complete a few more steps to finish the process. If you have an Apple Watch, learn how to restore it from a backup and pair it with your new iPhone.

Do the EQ settings from my iTunes library transfer to my iPhone when I sync it, thus causing my iPhone to over process the data when I turn it's EQ on? I'm trying to find the optimal "audiophile" settings when streaming music from my iPhone to the ATV2 and attached stereo system.

Unfortunately I have tried exactly that several times only to receive the same message every attempt. This is very disappointing. A quick google search of this topic shows this has been an issue for some people to back to at least the Xs. I have transferred from old to new iPhones many times and never had this issue. Hopefully someone at apple will correct this very soon.

Nightmare. I am having the same problem transferring data from iPhone 11 Pro Max (256 GB) to iPhone 13 Pro Max (256) both running 15.2.1 software. The iPhone 11 Pro Max had 205 GB used storage but kept getting the same message cannot transfer due to not enough storage on the new phone. I tried side by side transfer, restore from back-up, and I-phone to I-phone hard wired with no success. Took the phone to the Apple Store with no resolve. I then went back to the carrier and they asked me to open a ticket with apple which I did. After 2 hours later, the apple technician requested that I replace the phone. I returned the iPhone pro 13 max 256 GB and ordered a iPhone pro max 13 512 GB. I don't know if this will resolve my issue. "Apple Engineering" root cause this issue as you have have a software bug that is causing major customer dissatisfaction. Root cause and please send out a patch. I have spent at least trouble shooting 20 hours trouble shooting.

If you're using the method of Quick Start you'll want to keep the previous iPhone near the new iPhone 13 Pro through the data transfer. Please make sure to keep both devices connected to a power source and until the data migration completes. Transfer times can vary based on factors such as the connection type that you're using, network conditions, and the amount of data being transferred: Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

I was able to do it without any issues on one phone and on another had issues like everyone in this thread. Spoke to support who then had me back up my device to iCloud then do an iCloud transfer which resolved my issues.

I had this problem too. I have 196G in my iPhone 8 and transfer to new iPhone 13 Pro with 256G. It failed with the exact error as you showed by direct phone transfer. Then I try transfer by iTune in the PC windows 10. Backup succeed. Restore failed again due to not enough space in the new phone. Very interesting!!! I check the size of the backup files. It is 300G. For some reason, Apple expanses the size. Then I reduced my old phone size to 164G by removing some app and pictures. Now the iTune backup shows 249G which is smaller than 256G iPhone capacity. This time restore succeed. After new IPhone up, the it shows the storage usage is 185G. I hope this will helpful, especially for people who use iCloud for photos.

Same problem here. I bought four iPhone 13 Pros with 128Gb and trying to transfer from four iPhone 11 128gb content and having the same errors on all of them using the 'quick setup method'. Tried backing up iPhone 11 to iTunes, the backup is successful but when I tried to restore to the new iPhone 13 Pro 128GB, it says 'not enough storage' on the new phone. It puzzles me. I even tried to delete a lot of stuff from the old iPhone 11 and bought down the used storage to 110 GB from 121 GB, still same issue. Apple need to fix this issue. It is frustrating trying transfer everything to the new iPhone.

FWIW. I just replaced my iPhone SE with a 2nd generation model. My original phone has 32 GB, the new one 64. Regardless, the over-the-air activation, setup, and data transfer process took approximately 30-45 minutes overall. (I live in a rural area with 10 Mbps down Internet service, as a baseline.) Depending on the amount of data on your old phone, this could be shorter or longer. 1 hour may not be excessive.

**Would it at all be wise to try to do the direct phone-to-phone setup where data is transferred direct from my old iPhone to my new one over WiFi & Bluetooth? Or will it just take days or longer, and be problematic?**

I would of course totally be able to keep both old & new phone within a few feet of each other + plugged into power until the wireless transfer completed, but again; only if I can use ONE of the phones during the transfer.

When I first started the transfer and it had been running about 20-30 min, it settled in at about 4-5 hours transfer time remaining, so I think 4-6 hours total is accurate, and IMHO; not bad at all for a full 500GB!!!! ???

If you get a new computer, you can transfer your iTunes library by connecting computers or by using iPod or a portable drive. See the Apple Support article Back up and restore your iTunes library on your PC.
