The 2026 ICSD School Budget and Board of Education vote will take place on Tuesday, May 19th.
Candidate nominating petitions are now available with the ICSD Board of Education Clerk.
Completed petitions are due by midnight on April 29th.
The ITA is happy to help any interested candidates access the process of running for the ICSD Board of Education!
We do this annually for ALL candidates in a the following ways:
We provide information about important deadlines and actions required to run for a seat
We provide counsel and advice, as requested, on how to organize an electoral campaign
We gather petition signatures amongst our members and community supporters to help potential candidates get on the ballot
We host a candidate questionaire and interview all potential candidates
We provide a communications hub for sharing candidates views and campaign platforms in the community
We also make annual endorsements for candidates in the race. An ITA endorsed candidate can also expect:
Access to our political organizing department who will help you design a winnable campaign based on your values and platform
Amplification of your candidacy and our support for it in our internal and community networks
Active participation of union members and community allies in your campaign in the form of flyering in the community, media support, phone banks, and door to door canvassing
8 out of 9 of the current members of the Board of Education have been previously endorsed by the ITA and won their seats.

The Ithaca Teachers Association (ITA) is committed to ongoing

We fight for what is best for students in prek-higher ed.
We fight for the resources and programs our students need and our ability to provide equal access to comprehensive public education.
We fight for community involvement in discussions and decisions about what is best for our schools.
We fight for, and in solidarity with, unionized public employees.
When considering endorsements, the PAC will evaluate candidates
based on the following criteria:
Values: how closely the candidates values, as expressed in candidate questionnaires, public appearances, candidate forums, and voting records (where available) align with the values of the ITA PAC.
Accessibility: how willing the candidate has been to meet with us and work with us on decisions that align with the values of the ITA PAC.
Advocacy: how hard the candidate has fought to ensure that decisions made in their field align with the values of the ITA PAC.
