IT5507 Fundamentals of Data Science

Welcome to the IT5507 Fundamentals of Data Science!

This course is newly designed and developed by Dr Trang Do, and is offered by School of Innovation, Design and Technology, Whitireia and Weltec, one of New Zealand's oldest tertiary education institutions which always focuses on teaching real skills.

What is Data Science?

In this course, you will be introduced to the whole picture of Data Science and its activities. You will also get yourself familiar and practice in depth with database, database management, and database design. Especially, you will learn the concepts of machine learning and know how to apply different machine learning algorithms such as kNN to predict and make decisions. You will finally get your hands dirty in data visualisation.

You will gain lots of hands-on experiences with SQL - a language for you to communicate with databases and manage data; with MS SQL Server; with Python - the world's most popular data science programming language and also one of the world's most widely used computer programming languages; with Python libraries and packages; and with MS Power BI.
