In 2018, graduate students at ISU with Teaching Assistantships won a “seat at the table.” Teaching Assistants (TAs) voted to form a union and won legal recognition. We are a group of TAs like you who come together with coworkers to collectively advocate for and negotiate with employers on behalf of the entire group. Legally, this means ISU has to negotiate with us over TA pay, fees, and working conditions. What we get in the end depends upon participation! Our union has successfully ratified its second contract!

When the GWU was first formed, it was only legal for teaching assistants to unionize, meaning RAs and GAs got left out of our initial unionization. Since then, the law has changed and we are working to organize RAs and GAs as well. If you are interested in unionizing, please reach out or attend a meeting!
There are many ways to get involved! Consider joining one of our working committees:
Creates internal mass communications and communications with ISU. Creates social media content for the Graduate Workers Union.
Creates proposals, attends negotiations with the University Administration, and decides on strategy and responses for contract negotiations.
Join a meeting or contact us on Facebook to learn how you can get involved!
