Race 6 - 2020

In the media this week...

  • Press release: AI KRAKEN was recently seen walking around town absolutely covered in blood, scaring local citizens. KRAKEN has since disappeared from the public eye, but his racing team has stated he slipped on an uneven footpath on his way home, and there is nothing to worry about. In unrelated news, a high-ranking mafia boss was recently found beaten to a pulp in his own home, the only evidence at the scene being a small puddle of motor oil, that appears to have been intentionally spilled onto the victim. There are currently no known suspects in this murder, however due to the violent nature of the crime, police think it must have been an absolutely insane member of society.
  • Press release: Solid State Drive has introduced a new model of race car to their team. Driver Hunky Davis comments: “These new cars are a joy to drive. Turns out the cooperation with those shady Japanese manufacturers was actually worth it! Their design department gave us completely new insights into lightweight construction, drastically reducing the weight of the new cars while making them significantly more aerodynamic. The new cars also have an entirely new engine design: A gas turbine is connected via battery to four electric motors, one per wheel, giving us much better control over the car. This configuration of allows the turbine to work at its most efficient RPM without slowing down as the batteries store energy when it’s not used by the electric motors. An augmented reality control suite has also been installed in the cars, giving each driver a 360° view of their surroundings through their HUD and sharing sensor data between the team’s cars during the race. I’m looking forward to driving my new car in this week’s race, I hope it will give me an advantage over the competition.” The engineering team also discussed the design of the new car: “We have switched to eco-friendly liquid hydrogen as our fuel source to demonstrate that sustainable high-performance engines can be even more fun than traditional petrol-fuelled engines. More importantly this has increased the energy density of the fuel, further decreasing the car’s mass.”
  • Vasili Mikhailov appears in "The Spy Who Poisoned Me", briefly in the background at a race event. The movie released this week and he was noticed and pointed out on Twitter.
  • Cam Cargo appears on a late night comedy show, lampooning the president of a small African nation.
  • Dr. Strangeloaf invites a racing legend to visit the garage during race week, which inspires the team to a strong qualifying.
  • Varalia Spiders is interviewed by local press. "The fans were out today, and I was just feedin' off them--turned out to be a great day for Spider Mechanics racing!
  • Rodney Trotter is also interviewed: "We made some changes underneath, and you can see--it worked, I think. Now we'll see what happens."
  • Rain Winterson, the worst qualifier on the grid, has absolutely everything click. She stuns people and wins one loyal fan $36,004 after he put money on her to take pole today. She also has two boosts available as a result!
  • Emil Ziskie has a great day and posts on social media: "This is what we work all year for, to get out here and really get after it, and today we did."
  • Jane Kinglet uses poorly-chosen words about Dr. Strangeloaf, questioning whether he is a real doctor, and this gets replayed on national sports TV shows.
  • Kerry Mackinaw rounds off a busy week with a soundbite for local radio. "Out there on the track, we kept at it pretty good. There was some things we could've done different--but there always is."
