In the media this week...

  • After his latest victory in Race 1, Airen Slipper was pressed for an interview. Among the various questions, he was asked about his prospects for the future. Here is his answer: "With my victory last season and this start, I fully plan to go for the golden cup once again. I hope the competition is fierce though, it would not be fun otherwise." He'll start in 14th.
  • Flash Finley takes part in a skit in a late night TV show, which goes down well. He starts in 18th.
  • LA Brick has a great week and a selfie he takes with a disabled fan goes viral. He uses this positivity to push his times through the roof, and he'll start on pole!
  • Yokum Schmidt is interviewed shortly after clocking 6th on the grid: "The jack guy saw some things about the track that we put into place, made a couple of adjustments. It really paid off."
  • Nathan Dunkleman uses the performance boost from the last race to work his mechanics extra hard during the week, but it doesn't seem to pay off. In the end, he's well off the pace down in 28th.

NEWTON, IA

Remember that each turn is 10 miles, and is represented by the skill being checked and the group of drivers being checked. With regards to groups, 1st - 7th is TOP, 8th - 19th is MIDDLE and 20th and below is BOTTOM.

TURN 1 - SKILL - TOP - three chances and three failures, with Conor Westfall, Boothby Grafoe and Kieran Easter unable to make their first efforts stick.

TURN 2 - REFLEX - BOTTOM - Travis Elford forces Juan Solo to spendhis performance boost, while Kerry Mackinaw (35) overtakes Flash Finley and moves to #18. Egil Van Can (35) overtakes Juan Solo and moves to #10, Valkyr Slipper (35) overtakes Elias and moves to #8 and Corey Creek (35) overtakes Cucumbers Caulfield and moves to #18. We see further moves from the back of the pack, as Abnaber Salad (33) overtakes Valkyr Slipper and moves to #8, Egil Van Can uses their performance boost to defend against Garrad McKinley, Leapfrog Jones (29) overtakes Urist Tannhauser and moves to #16, Paul Puffin (29) overtakes Abnaber Salad and moves to #8 and last but not least Varalia Spiders (28) overtakes Urist Tannhauser and moves to #18.

TURN 3 - TROUBLE - MIDDLE - An early start for the bodywork teams! Paul Puffin, Abnaber Salad, Valkyr Slipper, Egil Van Can, Leapfrog Jones, Urist Tannhauser and Elias squeeze around their spinning comrades. This leaves Kiki Roseburg, Juan Solo, Aaron Slipper, Jay Wolff and Varalia Spiders to get caught up and banged around. All of them retain some motion, though, and can get into the pits for the upcoming yellows period.

TURN 4 - YELLOW FLAG - Roseburg, Solo and Slipper are all back out on track again.

TURN 5 - YELLOW FLAG - Wolff and Varalia Spiders also get going again, meaning all five racers caught in the crash can continue the race.

TURN 6 - SKILL - TOP - Conor Westfall (7) overtakes L.A. Brick and takes the lead, but is then passed by Kieran Easter who then leads! Bonus points for both men!

TURN 7 - PIT TURN - Valkyr Slipper, Paul Puffin, Abnaber Salad, Urist Tannhauser, Cucumbers Caulfield and Tamauria Spiders(8) gain boosts from a fast pit. Kieran Easter's lead didn't last very long, as his mechanics linger slightly too long, and Yokum Schmidt gets in front of him to lead!
