Race 3 - Bristol motor speedway

In the media this week...

  • Corey Creek appears on TV as part of a sponsor appearance here in Bristol. He is generally well-received. Corey will start the Bristol 500 in 11th.
  • Flash Finley takes part in a phone interview which threatens to go nuclear when a caller flat out insults him and questions why he's even in the series! Finley deals with it fantastically and points out his result in Race 2, which shuts the loudmouth up. Finley will start in 19th, a very average position for his skill.
  • Dominic Jackson has a fantastic week, inviting a fan deputation into the team garage and posing for pictures which go far and wide on Twitter. He backs this up with excellent lap times, securing pole position!
  • Yokum Schmidt also has a great week with his fans, surprising some by posing as a cleaner and bursting through a wall at them as part of a charity event. He will start in 6th.
  • Aaliyah Stover is unlucky and has some bad tire problems throughout the weekend. These badly hamper her qualifying chances, and she'll start in 41st.
  • Takumi Fujiwara, last week's winner, has another excellent outing during qualifying. He's interviewed after the session, giving credit to his crew chief and to all of the workers in the garage. He will start fifth overall.

Mason Shelton felt that Valkyr Slipper held him up during qualifying, losing him places. The two should be considered to be feuding.

Developmental Series (5 turn sprint race)

BRISTOL 50

TURN 1 - DUEL - TOP - Mason Shelton is on the warpath! Clearly still furious after the incident in qualifying, he basically aims for Valkyr as soon as the green flag hits! Aiming for a complete torpedoing, he misses Valkyr completely, but manages to escape any significant or permanent harm to his car. Their feud looks to continue!

TURN 2 - REFLEX - TOP - Some very poor attacking driving means that no-one can challenge Valkyr successfully this turn, and he gets the bonus points for leading.

TURN 3 - CONTROL - TOP - Franceso forces some absolute heroics from the leader, Valkyr, in order for Slipper to retain his lead.

TURN 4 - SMART - MIDDLE - It's Violet Carrick's moment as she seizes control of this stint of the race, climbing up from last place to second overall!

TURN 5 - REFLEX - MIDDLE - A fairly dull race, dominated at all times by Valkyr Slipper, comes to an end. However, we do see late charges from Lars Ungar, who moves from 15th to 8th, and a great final 3 miles from Xander Louis who slides from 14th all the way to 4th!

VALKYR SLIPPER WINS THE BRISTOL 50!

RACE 3 - Bristol 500 (28 turns)

Remember that each turn is 10 miles, and is represented by the skill being checked and the group of drivers being checked. With regards to groups, 1st - 7th is TOP, 8th - 19th is MIDDLE and 20th and below is BOTTOM.

TURN 1 - SKILL - TOP - Action straight from the off, with Dominic Jackson having to be censored over the radio as he curses, having immediately lost ground to Selenia Spiders (4th to 1st). She is then taken at the 7 mile line by Tom Reynolds, who looks settled and comfortable in front as she is set to draft behind him. TOM REYNOLDS LEADS!

TURN 2 - HEAT - MIDDLE - A very quiet section of the race - only Ben Stover attempts to move but Takumi Fujiwara is able to fend him off.

TURN 3 - REFLEX - MIDDLE - Again, nothing doing in this section of the race, as the drivers attempt to avoid trouble on this particularly challenging track.

TURN 4 - SKILL - MIDDLE - We see two moves this turn, with Manne Love - teammate of the current leader Tom Reynolds, leaping from 12th to 5th. He is followed up by Emil Ziskie, putting his teammate to shame in a series of moves that takes him from 9th to 2nd.

TURN 5 - HEAT - MIDDLE - Paul Puffin impresses many in the stadium by moving from 17th all the way to 6th.

TURN 6 - RARE - BOTTOM - We've not seen this before! Prichard SURGES up the track, moving from 20th in the bottom group all the way into the top group - 5th to be precise! Superb driving!

TURN 7 - PIT TURN - We see fast pits for Oliver Otter, Conor Westfall, Corey Creek, Jay Wolff, Yokum Schmidt, Takumi Fujiwara and Boothby Grafoe. Shockingly, we see Manne Love - he of zero points so far - take the lead from his teammate! What a race so far from the Shooting Stars!

POSITIONS AFTER PIT 1:

40th -- Cannonball Malone

42nd -- Nathan Dunkleman

TURN 8 - DUEL - TOP - Manne Love's lead lasts long enough to get the bonus points, but not long enough to do much else. It's Prichard, continuing his momentum from his SURGE earlier, with a successful pass. Manne Love is able to escape trouble - no mean feat with his escape rating so low.

TURN 9 - DUEL - TOP - Their blood must be up! Paul Puffin attempts to take on the race leader, but is unable to make the move. He also escapes trouble and can breathe a sigh of relief that he didn't blow what is a good race for him so far.

TURN 10 - PROBLEM - MIDDLE - Ben Stover gets himself all out of sorts on a straightaway, banging into the wall and knocking something loose inside the car. He takes internal damage but is able to repair. It costs him all sorts of time, though, and he drops right to the back.

TURN 11 - CONTROL - MIDDLE - A couple of moves during this stint - at mile 102 we see Jay Wolff secure 5th place (up from 11th), and Yokum Schmidt uses his performance chip to move up two places to 8th. Takumi Fujiwara has a great couple of miles, and uses his performance boost as well to take 4th place.

TURN 12 - TROUBLE - BOTTOM - IT'S THE BIG ONE! It all goes wrong in the front row of the bottom group and it's absolute chaos. We see Tim Walker, Kerry Mackinaw, LA Brick, Vasili Mikhailov, Stanley Tee, Tamauria Spiders, Leapfrog Jones, Cannonball Malone and Ben Stover all get collected in the wreckage, and out come the caution flags. However, it is a very short caution, as the track marshals do an admirable job getting it cleared.

TURN 13 - YELLOW FLAG - Uninvolved in the crash, Winter McFish reports a clutch problem and has to pit, dropping her to the back. We also see retirements from Kerry Mackinaw, LA Brick, Vasili Mikhailov and Stanley Tee, who cannot continue.

TURN 14 - STAR - BOTTOM - GREEN FLAG RACING after an unusually short yellow period, and none of these drivers are interested in quitting yet. We have numerous huge moves made - Tamauria Spiders from 35th to 11th, Tim Walker from 34th to 22nd, Nathan Dunkleman from 32nd to 14th, closely followed by Airen Slipper who follows him up to 17th. Egil Van Can, having a poor race so far, moves from 23rd to 16th. Travis Elford, also doing badly, gets into the middle group too, from 22nd to 15th. Victor Lucky moves from 21st to 18th as well - but the big story is Rain Winterson! A starred star, if you will, she moves from 21st to 15th, and then moves again all the way up into 4th! An incredible sequence of events and a huge amount of action over this ten mile period!

TURN 15 - REFLEX - TOP - You cannot stop the Rain! A huge twenty mile portion of the race is completed for last year's developmental sensation, and she seizes 1st place from Prichard! RAIN WINTERSON LEADS!

TURN 16 - PROBLEM - TOP - Heartbreak at the front, with Manne Love reporting that his car is much too tight in the turn. By the time he's tried to fix it on track, then had to pit, he has to slot in at 38th, right at the back. What a disappointment after such a bright start!

TURN 17 - PIT TURN - Quite a lot of fast pitting this turn, with performance boosts for Prichard, Jay Wolff, Emil Ziskie, Selenia Spiders, Dominic Jackson, Egil Van Can, Airen Slipper and Corey Creek. Shooting Stars are back at the front, however, with Tom Reynolds winning the battle of pit row and coming out in first again! TOM REYNOLDS LEADS!

POSITIONS AFTER PIT 2:

1st -- Tom Reynolds

3rd -- Prichard

5th -- Emil Ziskie

7th -- Takumi Fujiwara

Out:

Turn 12 - Vasili Mikhailov (electrical system severed in accident), Kerry Mackinaw (clutch broken in accident), Stanley Tee (radiator cracked and leaking following accident), LA Brick (steering broken in accident).

TURN 18 - CONTROL - TOP - An insane period of action followed the second pit of the race! Firstly, Takumi Fujiwara forces his way past Tom Reynolds, swapping a little bit of paint on the way. However, Selenia Spiders seizes the opportunity and uses her performance boost to take the lead for herself. Emil Ziskie, not to be outdone, does the same, but they're then surpassed by Jay Wolff who jumps in control of the race! That's four lead changes in 10 miles! JAY WOLFF LEADS!

TURN 19 - CONTROL - MIDDLE - The middle pack are clearly not willing to be outdone by the drama at the front. Travis Elford heads up to 6th from 18th, Tamauria Spiders follows Selenia's lead and goes to 5th, Yokum Schmidt heads to 10th as well. Dominic Jackson takes 8th, with Rain Winterson moving one place up to seventh. Airen Slipper finally gets something right, as well, and jumps 10 places from 13th to 3rd.

TURN 20 - HEAT - BOTTOM - We complete the cycle amongst the packs. Cannonball Malone moves from 36th to 22nd, Randy Flamethrower climbs 6th places from 27th to 21st, Urist Tannhauser goes from 26th to 20th and Tim Walker climbs five places from 24th to 19th. Cucumbers Caulfield also gets a little momentum and he heads to 11th.

TURN 21 - TROUBLE - MIDDLE - It's a big one! Squealing and squalling, four of the cars in the middle of the pack get themselves into a big scrape. Takumi Fujiwara, Cucumbers Caulfield, Tom Reynolds and Tim Walker are all badly impacted by the crash, but the rest of the middle of the pack (Dominic Jackson, Yokum Schmidt, Prichard, Boothby Grafoe, Corey Creek, Conor Westfield and Nathan Dunkleman) all make it through.

TURN 22 - YELLOW FLAG - Takumi is out, as is Cucumbers.

TURN 23 - YELLOW FLAG - Tom Reynolds' day is finished, as is Tim Walker's. A cruel, cruel day for Tom - at least he'll get some leader bonus points.

TURN 24 - TV - BOTTOM - Finally, a quiet portion of the race. Both Aaliyah Stover and Flash Finley have a chance to move up, but fail.

TURN 25 - TV - MIDDLE - Again, a quiet section - Corey Creek and Yokum Schmidt fail to move up, but Dominic Jackson climbs one place from 8th to 7th, just into the top group.

TURN 26 - SKILL - MIDDLE - Sensing this could be their final chance, there is some shuffling from the middle group. Paul Puffin goes from 19th to 11th, Cannonball Malone climbs 10 places from 18th to 8th, Randy Flamethrower again pushes forwards from 17th to 10th. Conor pushes all the way up to third and Prichard into 4th - all to play for still.

TURN 27 - PIT TURN - A final pit turn before the final sprint. Prichard and Airen Slipper both get fast pits off, but Airen fails to push his way past Jay in a confrontational exit of the pit lane!

POSITIONS AFTER PIT 3:

1st -- Jay Wolff

3rd -- Airen Slipper

5th -- Tamauria Spiders

Out:

Turn 12 - Vasili Mikhailov (electrical system severed in accident), Kerry Mackinaw (clutch broken in accident), Stanley Tee (radiator cracked and leaking following accident), LA Brick (steering broken in accident).

Turn 22 - Takumi Fujiwara (lug nuts sheered off in accident), Cucumbers Caulfield (alternator shattered following accident).

Turn 23 - Tom Reynolds (dangerously cut bodywork in accident, severing tires and hoses), Tim Walker (brakes no longer working following accident).

TURN 28 - TROUBLE - MIDDLE - Really?! Final lap of the race, and we have a crash! Cannonball Malone, feeling the pressure perhaps, loses his way and collides straight into the wall. It folds the sharp part of his bodywork right into the tyre, and something is severed. He's out of the race, and we have a caution flag out. Extended race!

TURN 29 - YELLOW FLAG TURN

TURN 30 - HEAT - BOTTOM - A bit of an anti-climax for the front runners, but important chance for the backrunners to get above the magical 20 mark to get some points. Daniel Burman finally has a bit of luck and moves from 23rd to 20th - enough to gain one point - but a huge climb from Max Von Passum of 18 places puts him all the way up into 10th! A great move with valuable points!
