Race 2 - watkins glen international

In the media this week...

  • Rain Winterson has certainly set the paddock buzzing with an incredible main series debut last week. Her qualifying this week was much more middle of the road, but she's becoming a fan favourite very quickly. She will start in 10th.
  • Boothby Grafoe makes the TV list for two weeks in a row! He takes part, singing, in a national radio phone in show. He'll start in 12th position - a decent result considering his 35th place finish last week.
  • Corky Cadorkian has obviously listened to his team principle telling him to up his game - he'll begin in 6th this week and have a performance boost in his pocket too.
  • Ben Stover manages to damage Flash Finley's car as they re-enter the pits, and the two exchange harsh words. It is still to be seen if there is bad blood - but with Stover in 3rd and Finley starting 5th, this could be a good one.
  • Airen Slipper also is a second time visitor to the TV attention! An excellent week from him will give him a performance boost, and this will certainly help as he begins in 4th.
  • Prichard hosts an autograph signing fundraiser for a local charity that specialises in events on nearby Seneca Lake. He will start the race in 13th - you decide if that is a lucky number or not.
  • Corey Creek rounds off the TV list as another driver with a great week. He completely out-qualifies what you would expect from him, and will begin in 7th with a performance boost ready to spend too.

Developmental Series (5 turn sprint race)

TURN 1 - SMART - MIDDLE - Carrick can't make the most of her opportunity to shift up, and no-one else within the group has the quality required to make a shift.

TURN 2 - TV - ALL - A check for everyone as we have no TV drivers in the sprint race. A chaotic section of the race with huge amounts of action. We see positional changes for Sweet Clyde (up to 10th), Xander (to 9th), Lem Tables (to 6th), Valkyr Slipper (to 5th) and Fireplug Fitzpatrick jumps to 4th. Up front there's even more action - Aaron Slipper takes the lead from Varalia, but is then taken in turn by Kieran Easter. Lots of bonus points at the end of the race, with Varalia leading for long enough to qualify, plus these two new! KIERAN EASTER LEADS!

TURN 3 - CONTROL - MIDDLE - Violet Carrick finally gets to make a move stick, and takes 4th place, while being passed all the while by Francis Neumann who leaps all the way up to second place!

TURN 4 - TROUBLE - TOP - It's a big one! All that progress wiped out in an instance as Aaron Slipper and Francis Neumann have a coming together which in turn also wipes out Violet Carrick and Varalia Spiders!

TURN 5 - YELLOW FLAG - Violet Carrick cannot continue and the luckless veteran is our first DNF of the season.

TURN 6 - YELLOW FLAG - At least Violet won't be lonely - Aaron Slipper has also retired from damage suffered. Both Varalia and Francis get back onto the track, but at the back. They'll get points, but it'll be bittersweet considering what could have been.

TURN 7 - GREEN FLAG RACING - SKILL - TOP - Gary Gannet, Lem Tables, Valkyr Slipper and Fireplug Fitzpatrick all have a good go at toppling Kieran Easter who still leads, but they're unable to do anything at all and he takes the chequered flag!

RACE 2 - watkins glen road race (22 turns)

Remember that each turn is 10 miles, and is represented by the skill being checked and the group of drivers being checked. With regards to groups, 1st - 7th is TOP, 8th - 19th is MIDDLE and 20th and below is BOTTOM.

TURN 1 - REFLEX - MIDDLE - Not a lot of movement to begin our race, but the first ten miles see Urist Tannhauser force Airen to use up his performance boost almost immediately, with the same for Kerry Mackinaw and Corky Cadorkian. Egil Van Can sets his stall out super early, jumping up to 4th position.

TURN 2 - SMART - MIDDLE - Again, a quiet start on this track which rewards smarts, and Urist makes his move up to 7th from 16th, with last year's champion Cucumbers Caulfield heading up to 5th place.

TURN 3 - PROBLEM - MIDDLE - We have a fire! Something goes very wrong with the electricals inside Vasili Mikhailov's car, and he's just about able to get it into pit lane before having to bail out himself. VASILI MIKHAILOV IS OUT!

TURN 4 - SKILL - TOP - Egil Van Can shows that he's out here to win this season, and to provide a boost to his teammate, who he was famously unsure off in the offseason. He forces his way up to first place, then has to fend off attacks from both Jay Wolff (3rd) and Conor Westfall, now in second. EGIL VAN CAN LEADS!

TURN 5 - CONTROL - MIDDLE - Daniel Burman makes a series of fantastic moves over a short three mile stretch, moving his way up from 17th to 2nd. It has to be said that with his current strategy, it is going to be nigh on impossible to get past him with the amount of defensive driving he's capable of today.

TURN 6 - REFLEX - TOP - Cucumbers Caulfield pushes from 6th to 1st, gaining the bonus points for leading, but is almost immeidately deposed by Daniel Burman, who seizes the lead. DANIEL BURMAN LEADS!

TURN 7 - PIT TURN - Rain Winterson has a good stop and release, pushing her up to third. We see fast pits from Daniel Burman, Cuce, Conor Westfall and Egil Van Can: all these performance boosts will make entering the top group very hard. Burman retains the lead as we hit the 70 mile mark.

Turn 3 - Vasili Mikhailov (electrical fire)

TURN 8 - TV - TOP - We're back to racing but it's another uneventful portion of the race. Ben Stover forces Daniel Burman to use up his performance boost earlier than he would have liked, and Rain fails to make her move either.

TURN 9 - REFLEX - MIDDLE - Leapfrog Jones surprises Cuce, forcing him to spend his performance boost, and Airen Slipper's lunge on mile 86 forces Egil Van Can to do the same. Prichard is the man of the moment, pushing from 11th to 2nd overall.

TURN 10 - SKILL - MIDDLE - Flash Finley impresses many as he moves from 16th to 7th, just inside the top group. Ben Stover and Paul Puffin work beautifully together to help each other draft and slingshot up the order - Ben ends up in 2nd from 10th and Paul Puffin in 3rd from 13th as a result.

TURN 11 - STAR - BOTTOM - The bottom group finally get a bit of the attention. Aaliyah Stover seizes her chance, moving from 42nd to 20th, and Nathan Dunkleman moves to 17th from 35th. Takumi Fujiwara shows he won't be outdone, jumping just outside the top group in 9th all the way back from 35th, but the main story is Tim Walker of Harris Motorsports, who goes from 34th to 15th to 4th using his starred quality!

TURN 12 - CONTROL - MIDDLE - Nothing to report within this stretch of the race, as the middle group are all stymied by the considerable defensive prowess of the drivers currently up top.

TURN 13 - TROUBLE - TOP - The quiet is abruptly ended! Something goes very wrong at the front as Daniel Burman's rear end steps out on him, and he collects both Rain Winterson and Cucumbers Caulfield in a minor accident. All three are able to get repaired and back on the track, but it looks like their day is completely trashed. BEN STOVER LEADS!

TURN 16 - GREEN FLAG RACING - SMART - BOTTOM - We see three major moves, with Selenia Spiders finally showing up and moving from 39th to 14th. Dominic Jackson shifts from 33rd to 18th, and Winter McFish the independent driver takes 11th.

TURN 17 - PIT TURN - We see fast pits from Kerry Mackinaw, Nathan Dunkleman, Travis Elford, Airen Slipper, Corey Creek, Jay Wolff and Egil Van Can. Takumi Fujiwara wins the battle of pit lane and comes out in front! TAKUMI FUJIWARA LEADS!

Turn 3 - Vasili Mikhailov (electrical fire)

TURN 18 - SKILL - MIDDLE - A huge amount of movement in a very busy period of the race. Corky Cadorkian shifts up a little to 12th, and we see numerous performance boosts used: Travis to 4th, Jay Wolff to 9th, Dunkeleman to 7th. Selenia Spiders also makes another move, taking 10th, Conor Westfall heads to 8th, and Egil Van Can sticks up there in 5th.

TURN 19 - SMART - MIDDLE - Dominic Jackson takes 10th from 19th, and Winter McFish continues to punch above her weight, taking 8th from 17th. Flash Finley continues his fantastic race, moving ten places up to 5th. Urist Tannhauser forces Egil Van Can to spend his performance boost but this exposes Egil to a move from Airen Slipper, who pushes past him.

TURN 20 - HEAT - MIDDLE - Kerry Mackinaw uses their performance boost fantastically well, moving from 18th to 5th, and Nathan Dunkleman forces Creek to use one of his two (!) boosts. Corky Cadorkian moves from 17th to 7th, and Airen Slipper from 8th to 4th - but it's that man Van Can again who pushes past all of these usurpers to take second.

TURN 21 - HEAT - BOTTOM - Only two moves to report, but Cucumbers Caulfield finally shows some of that championship calibre driving, moving a staggering 21 places from 41st to 16th, and Boothby Grafoe climbs ten places from 21st to 11th.

TURN 22 - REFLEX - BOTTOM - It looks like Fujiwara is going to take the race as we focus on the back of the pack for our final ten miles: a fascinating scramble into the points positions lies ahead. Last week's winner Max Von Passum finally makes an appearance, climbing into 10th. Cuce moves up from 19th to 15th, and Emil Ziskie tries to match his teammate Egil by heading up to 9th. Jay Wolff moves further up the points from 20th to 12th. Randy Flamethrower breaks hearts by taking 20th then being slid back to 21st by Garrad McKinley, who seizes 14th when the dust settles.

Turn 3 - Vasili Mikhailov (electrical fire)

Drivers with an unspent performance chip are Corey Creek.

As a new feature, two awards will be made, with each receiving a chip too:

  • Driver of the Day: Flash Finley - a fantastic day where he drove well above his skill, constantly popping up in the report and securing a solid points result at the end of it.
  • Unlucky Driver of the Day: Daniel Burman set himself up for a fantastic day, secured the lead, then ended up causing a crash. That's twice for the poor guy - lightning can't strike thrice, can it?!

Choices will be emailed no later than Wednesday if their owners have enabled them.
