Race 1 - Golden plump 200

In the media this week...

  • Aaliyah Stover holds a charity signing in a local book store to promote the 2017 iStock Racing Annual. She qualifies 14th, higher than expected for her.
  • Airen Slipper's team, Luistanian Blues, unveils their new sponsorship lineup in a lavish event before the race begins. He will start the race in 15th, quite a bit below where he'd have wanted to be.
  • Yokum Schmidt generates some buzz as he gets ready to take part in his first main series race. After appearing on TV talking about some of the changes in the car from Developmental to the Main Series, he blows everyone away with some fantastic laps. He will begin the race in 3rd; higher than he could have possibly dreamed for his debut!
  • Travis Elford and Emil Ziskie have a stand-up, fists flying fight after their laps. No-one can quite work out why - they came close on exiting pit lane, but there must be more to it. It's clear that a feud has begun. Travis will start in 12th, Emil in 18th; is that enough of a gap to avoid chaos?
  • Jay Wolff, who shocked many in the season when he pridefully declared that he "only races for [him]self!", backs up his skills with a superb lap just shy of the track record. He'll begin in pole position, with bonus points ahoy.
  • Dominic Jackson embarasses himself a little when, during a TV interview, he gets the city we're racing in completely wrong. Not just once, not twice - but three times. The third time was even after being corrected! Goodness me. He will start the race in 16th.
  • Boothby Grafoe is fired up. "I heard A.I. Kraken saying some things about us the other day. I just wanna say, we won't forget that he said that." This seems to unsettle him, however, and he's well off the pace in 37th. Kraken, however, may have had a point, as he will start the race in 2nd and with a power boost available too!

Developmental Series (5 turn sprint race)

GOLDEN PLUMP 50

TURN 1 - DUEL + FEUD / FUME - Violet Carrick, a last minute demotion after an adminstrative error, is clearly unhappy with her lot in life and lunges dangerously at Lem Tables. She takes his spot, causing him a wobble. Lem escapes trouble. Violet then immediately comes under attack from Solo, but Solo gets it wrong and slips to the back! However, he's not done there - Solo knows that at this early stage he still has a chance to have a crack at Varalia Spiders, and it's kamikaze mode for him. He bangs past driver after driver, and there is a thunderous smash he gets his final approach all wrong: right into the back of Varalia! When the dust settles, they're both at the back, and their feud is clearly not over yet. GARY GANNET LEADS!

TURN 2 - SKILL - MIDDLE - Valkyr Slipper can't make his starred skill quality pay off, but Kieran Easter makes a move up to 5th. Mason Shelton (10th) and Lem Tables (9th) can't progress.

TURN 3 - STAR - TOP - the disappointing son of CREAMED "CORN", Salad saw his teammate take the championship last year while he got demoted. He surges up from 3rd to 1st position! ABNABER SALAD LEADS!

TURN 4 - REFLEX - MIDDLE - Solo is off, leaving Varalia in a cloud of dust! During a six mile charge, he pushes from 16th all the way up to 2nd! Xander Louis attempts to get into the top group, but a last minute brake check from Elias causes him to stay put.

TURN 5 - REFLEX - TOP - Fireplug Fitzpatrick, freshly demoted, jumps up into first place! An almighty battle takes place over the final four laps, with Abnaber and Juan Solo desperately trying to dislodge the Yooperland Speedtraps driver, but it is to no avail, and he wins by just over a second.

RACE 1

Remember that each turn is 10 miles, and is represented by the skill being checked and the group of drivers being checked. With regards to groups, 1st - 7th is TOP, 8th - 19th is MIDDLE and 20th and below is BOTTOM.

TURN 1 - DUEL - FEUD! - We're heating up early this year! Emil Ziskie is absolutely off on one and charges straight at Elford after their issues before the race. They swap paint for a moment, and Travis loses part of his mirror. Ziskie stays put in place and Elford drops down a few places to 20th.

TURN 2 - DUEL - TOP - Another?! Daniel Burman initiates a push on race leader Jay Wolff, but loses, fails to escape trouble, and has to pit in order to tape over a dangerously split piece of bodywork. Massive frustration from his team over that choice!

TURN 3 - TV - MIDDLE - Some tremendous defensive driving stops any progress from the middle group of drivers. It takes AI Kraken his performance boost in order to fend off Airen Slipper, however, which could impact him later.

TURN 4 - REFLEX - MIDDLE - This time the top group can't stop some of the middle drivers, with Prichard heading from 18th to 8th, Garrad McKinley moving up from 10th to 5th and Urist Tannhauser sprints through to 3rd all the way from 17th!

TURN 5 - STAR - TOP - Urist Tannhauser is absolutely on a tear! Not content with a 14 place jump in the previous ten miles, he doesn't drop a rev and continues forcing his way forward. By mile 49 he's in the lead! URIST TANNHAUSER LEADS!

TURN 6 - REFLEX - BOTTOM - Lots of movement from the bottom group! Rain Winterson shows her talent, moving from 42nd to 12th, Takumi Fujiwara heads from 39th to 21st and champion Cucumbers Caulfield finally gets a break and shifts from 30th to 18th. Kerry Mackinaw, in his first main series race, takes 9th, and Emil Ziskie features again as he heads from 21st into the points in 13th.

TURN 7 - PIT TURN - L.A. Brick gets some purchase on Jay Wolff, taking his place, while Stover and Otter also progress. We see fast pits, and the resulting performance boosts, for cars 54, 24, 22, 92, 81 and 50. Jay Wolff's attempts to take Urist Tannhauser's lead fails and the racers settle back down to their rhythm.

TURN 8 - SKILL - TOP - Well, we said they'd settled down, but that doesn't seem true. Firstly, Jay Wolff manages to trap and pass Urist on mile 75, but he's followed half a mile later by a push from Garrad McKinley, who seizes the lead in turn! GARRAD MCKINLEY LEADS!

TURN 9 - STAR - TOP - And another change! Urist Tannhauser (3rd) is not content to just sit there and wait, and he pushes up past both Wolff and McKinley to retake the lead. URIST TANNHAUSER LEADS!

TURN 10 - SMART - MIDDLE - A quiet passage of the race, with the only notable news being Airen Slipper's series of moves which take him from 13th up into the top group, in 5th.

TURN 11 - SMART - CONTROL - A couple of moves during this stint, with Cucumbers Caulfield moving to the head of the middle group (8th) from 19th, Aaliyah Stover following him and sitting in 9th, Rain Winterson jumping into the top group in 7th and Vasili Mikhailov reminding everyone of his quality when he heads to 2nd from 12th!

TURN 12 - DUEL - TOP - Rain Winterson is obviously keen to make an impression in her first main roster race, and uses her performance boost to seizes the lead and some bonus points! RAIN WINTERSON LEADS!

Turn 13 - HEAT - BOTTOM - Finally the bottom group gets a chance to move up in what has been a chaotic race up front. Daniel Burman moves from 43rd to 21st, Tom Reynolds from 41st to 12th, Nathan Dunkleman from 42nd to 20th and Ben Stover goes from 33rd to 18th. We also see moves from Max Von Passum, who moves from 25th to the top of the middle group, and Corey Creek ends up in 13th.

TURN 14 - TV - TOP - Chances for Airen Slipper and Jay Wolff, as they were on the TV list. Slipper can't do anything with his opportunity, but Jay Wolff makes it stick yet again, and takes the lead from Rain. JAY WOLFF LEADS!

TURN 15 - STAR - MIDDLE - Ben Stover moves from 18th to 7th, Max Von Passum continues to shock as he goes from 10th to 3rd, and Airen Slipper moves up one place to 8th. The story has to be Prichard, though, who using his starred star quality, makes two moves, and jumps from 17th into the lead! PRICHARD LEADS!

TURN 16 - TROUBLE - MIDDLE - Ooh, we have a coming together! Garrad McKinley, L.A. Brick and Tom Reynolds all come together, splintering bodywork and leaving Brick with a flat tyre. Garrad's car appears mostly unscathed, but all three are forced to jump into the pits just ahead of a scheduled pit turn, which isn't ideal.

TURN 17 - PIT TURN - Urist takes Jay in the pits, with fast pits from Urist, Rain, Vasili and Ben Stover.

TURN 18 - YELLOW FLAG - It appears that all is not well for Garrad - his bodywork seemed okay but obviously something got knocked loose, and he is done for today. GARRAD MCKINLEY IS OUT!

POSITIONS AFTER PIT 2:

Out:

Turn 18: Garrad McKinley (unannounced internal damage)

TURN 19 - DUEL - MIDDLE - Green flag racing takes place but for about two a half miles, when Nathan Dunkleman makes a move at Leapfrog Jones. Dunk is successful, but Leapfrog loses grip when he tries to shut the door, and collects Cucumbers Caulfield and Daniel Burman in a crash!

TURN 20 - YELLOW FLAG - It's official from race HQ - we cannot end on a yellow flag, so this has become a 220 miler instead of 200 so that we will have one more stint of racing once these two yellow flags have cleared.

TURN 21 - YELLOW FLAG - All three racers caught in the crash are back on track, so it can't have been that bad - but their days are still effectively over.

TURN 22 - SKILL - TOP - With Prichard leading, he comes under immediate attack from Jay Wollf who senses it's now or never. He's unable to make the pass, but forces Prichard to use his performance boost - and along comes Max Von Passum! Passum sells a beautiful move, attacks right up the inside of Prichard, and the race leader can do nothing! They go toe to toe all the way down the final straight, but it is the Team Bong car that manages to beat the independent racer!

Drivers with an unspent performance chip at Urist Tannhauser, Vasili Mikhailov and Egil Van Can.

As a new feature, two awards will be made, with each receiving a chip too:

  • Driver of the Day: Max Von Passum - no-one expected a win from Max, who is not as quick as the other front runners - but what a final stint!
  • Unlucky Driver of the Day: Daniel Burman just couldn't avoid trouble, so we hope this is a consolation prize for him.

Choices will be emailed no later than Wednesday if their owners have enabled them.
