The 12th International Symposium on Taiwanese Languages and Teaching

Call for Papers

We are pleased to announce that we are accepting proposals for presentations for our 12th International Symposium on Taiwanese Languages and Teaching (ISTLT-12). The ISTLT-12 conference will be held on October 26-27, 2018, at the National Sun Yat-sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan and sponsored by Taiwan Languages and Literature Association.

The theme of this year is “Language Diversity and Sustainable Development in Taiwan.” We seek to examine the following linguistic and cultural issues relating to Taiwanese languages:

1. Multilingual developments and variations

2. Language contact, merging, and changes

3. Language maintenance and loss

4. Language revitalization and policy

5. Structural analysis of phonetics and phonology

6. Theory of morphology and syntax

7. Written languages, applied linguistics and language teaching

8. Research and method of lexicography

9. Interaction between language and folk culture

10. Other issues on Taiwanese languages and teaching

Important deadlines:

Deadline for abstract submission: January 14, 2018

Notification of acceptance: March 5, 2018

Deadline for full-length papers: August 20, 2018

Submission guidelines:

1. The conventional languages for presentation in the conference include Taiwanese languages and English.

2. We accept two types of submissions:

a) Individual papers related to the abovementioned issues.

b) Organized panels

i) Minimum of three and a maximum of five participants per panel proposal (chair included)

ii) Panel topics should focus on

A: Writings and application of Taiwanese languages

B: Immersion language teaching of Taiwanese languages

C: Language maintenance and loss of Taiwanese languages

D: Language collections of Taiwanese folk culture

iii) Please download the Proposal Submission Form from the conference website (https://sites.google.com/view/istlt2018/) and

return it to conference secretary office via istlt2018@gmail.com. The proposal must be saved as an additional PDF in addition

to Word formats.

Pre-registration Rates:

1. Members of Taiwanese Languages and Literature Association (who have paid the membership fee for 2018): free

2. Non-members: Students: $1500 TWD; Non-students: $2000 TWD
