Taiwan encompasses a rich and diverse linguistic landscape. Shaped by long-term historical development, social change, and language contact, the languages of Taiwan exhibit a high degree of variation across multiple levels, including phonetics, lexicon, morphology, syntax, pragmatics, and discourse. Such variation not only reflects the internal structural properties of languages but also reveals how speakers adapt and innovate in response to social, cultural, and contextual factors.

With the theme “ Variation, Documentation, and Theory Construction of Languages in Taiwan,” this conference aims to explore the structural characteristics, patterns of variation, and diverse usage of Taiwan’s languages. Through discussions ranging from language documentation and corpus compilation to theoretical analysis, we seek to reexamine the dynamic relationship between linguistic data and theory. Ultimately, the conference aspires to deepen our understanding of linguistic diversity in Taiwan and to expand its potential contributions to both academic research and practical applications.
