This Privacy Policy explains how Isstara: ISS Tracker (“Isstara”, “the App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) accesses, collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the App.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how information is handled.
Isstara does not require you to create an account, provide your name, email address, phone number, or other personal profile information.
Depending on the features you use and the permissions you grant, the App may process the following information.
Isstara uses your device's location to provide location-based International Space Station tracking and pass prediction features.
Depending on the Android permission you grant, the App may receive:
Precise location, including latitude, longitude, and altitude; or
Approximate location.
You control whether Isstara receives approximate or precise location through Android's location permission controls.
Location information is used to:
calculate upcoming visible ISS passes for your location;
determine pass times, duration, direction, and visibility;
obtain the ISS's current position relative to your location;
provide location-based sky and tracking features; and
determine a human-readable place name where supported by the device.
For ISS pass prediction and live position services, location coordinates may be transmitted securely to N2YO.com, whose services are used to calculate ISS pass predictions and positions.
The App may also use the Android platform geocoder to convert coordinates into a place name such as a city and country. The exact backend used by Android's geocoder may depend on the device and services available on that device.
Location is optional. If you decline location permission, some location-dependent features may not function or may operate with reduced functionality.
Google Play requires developers to disclose both approximate and precise location where applicable, including data handled through third-party SDKs.
Isstara uses N2YO.com for ISS orbital prediction and position services.
When the relevant features are used, the App may send:
latitude;
longitude;
altitude;
ISS/NORAD satellite identification information;
prediction parameters required by the service.
The App requests ISS pass predictions for a seven-day period and may request current ISS position information.
These requests are transmitted over HTTPS.
N2YO receives the location information necessary to calculate ISS visibility and position information. N2YO is an independent third-party service provider.
The current App does not send your name, email address, account information, or advertising identifier to N2YO.
Certain features of Isstara use the Google Maps SDK for Android to display maps.
The Maps SDK may automatically collect information required for operating, maintaining, and improving Google services, including information such as:
device metadata such as operating system version, device model, brand, and form factor;
Maps SDK build and version information;
Internal Usage Attribution information;
IP address;
a Maps SDK-specific pseudonymous identifier;
crash information and crash metrics; and
map interaction information, such as map panning and zooming, when applicable.
Google's current Maps SDK disclosure states that these data practices are part of the SDK's operation and that developers are responsible for accounting for them in their Google Play Data Safety disclosures.
Isstara does not enable the Google Maps SDK's built-in “My Location” layer for the map. The App's location marker is handled by Isstara itself.
Google may process information collected by the Maps SDK to maintain and improve Google services.
Isstara may offer optional premium features through Google Play Billing.
Payments are processed by Google Play. Isstara does not receive or store your credit card, debit card, bank account, or other payment instrument details.
The App may receive purchase/entitlement information from Google Play in order to determine whether premium access has been purchased and to restore that access.
Google Play handles payment processing according to Google's own terms and privacy practices.
Isstara may use the Google Play In-App Review service to allow eligible users to submit a review through Google Play.
The review flow is provided by Google Play. Isstara does not receive or store the rating or review content submitted through the Google Play review interface.
Isstara may provide a live community feature showing an aggregated number of users currently viewing the ISS map.
When this feature is used, the App may transmit:
a randomly generated temporary session identifier; and
the device's configured two-letter country code.
The session identifier is generated for the viewing session and is not linked by Isstara to your name, email address, account, advertising identifier, or persistent device identifier.
The information is used solely to calculate aggregated live viewer statistics and country-level counts.
The live community service is operated using our backend infrastructure hosted through Cloudflare Workers.
The backend stores the temporary session record for a limited period based on the viewer's activity. Inactive records are removed during the service's cleanup process.
The App does not intentionally collect or store your IP address through its own application code for this feature. Cloudflare may process network information as part of operating its infrastructure and security services.
Isstara may use the device camera to provide augmented-reality features.
The camera is used to display the real-world environment behind the AR overlay.
In the current implementation:
camera frames are processed for the on-screen preview;
camera frames are not uploaded to our servers;
camera images are not stored by Isstara;
Isstara does not use the camera to identify you; and
Isstara does not use the camera to collect photographs or videos.
The App also uses device orientation and motion sensors to position the AR interface and directional indicators.
Sensor information is processed locally and is not transmitted to our servers.
Isstara stores certain information locally on your device to provide functionality and improve performance.
This may include:
saved location information;
saved place name;
cached ISS pass predictions;
widget information;
notification/reminder settings;
onboarding status;
premium entitlement state;
app review eligibility counters;
temporary ISS position information; and
other app preferences.
The seven-day ISS pass cache is stored locally so that the App can display previously retrieved predictions without unnecessarily requesting the same information again.
Local storage does not mean that the information is transmitted to us. Information listed in this section is not transmitted by Isstara merely because it is stored on your device.
Isstara provides optional Android home-screen widgets.
Widgets use locally stored ISS pass information and do not independently request ISS data from our servers.
Widget data is generated from information already available to the App and stored locally on the device.
The widgets do not independently collect your location or transmit your location to our servers.
If you enable ISS pass reminders, Isstara may schedule notifications on your device.
Notification information, including pass timing, direction, and related ISS information, is processed locally for the reminder.
The notification system does not require a server-side account or push-notification profile.
You can disable notifications through the App or Android notification settings.
Some information may be collected automatically by third-party SDKs integrated into Isstara.
In particular, the Google Maps SDK may collect device metadata, IP address, SDK identifiers, crash metrics, diagnostics, and applicable map interaction information as described above. Google's current SDK documentation provides details of these practices.
The App developer is responsible for ensuring that third-party SDK data practices are accurately reflected in the App's Google Play Data Safety declaration. Google Play explicitly requires developers to account for data collection performed through third-party libraries and SDKs.
Isstara's current release does not include:
Google Mobile Ads / AdMob;
Firebase Analytics;
Firebase Crashlytics;
Google Advertising ID integration;
App Set ID collection;
a user account system; or
an analytics platform operated by the developer.
Information transmitted by Isstara to its network services is transmitted using HTTPS/TLS where supported by the respective service.
Location information sent to N2YO is transmitted using HTTPS.
We take reasonable technical measures to protect information handled by the App and our services. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Google Play's User Data requirements also require developers to handle personal and sensitive data securely and use modern cryptography such as HTTPS when transmitting such information.
Location information may be retained locally on your device as part of saved settings and cache data until you change or remove those settings, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App.
Location transmitted to N2YO is handled according to N2YO's own policies and retention practices.
Cached ISS pass information may remain locally on your device until it is replaced, cleared, or removed with the App's data.
Temporary community session information is retained on the backend only for the period necessary to maintain the live viewer count and is removed when it becomes inactive during cleanup.
Information collected by Google Maps SDK is subject to Google's applicable data handling and retention practices.
Purchase and payment information handled by Google Play is subject to Google's applicable policies.
Isstara does not currently provide user accounts and therefore does not maintain a developer-controlled personal account profile that requires an account deletion request.
You can remove locally stored Isstara data by:
clearing the App's storage/data through Android settings; or
uninstalling the App.
Third-party services such as N2YO, Google Maps, Google Play, and Cloudflare may have their own data retention and deletion policies governing information processed by their services.
Because Isstara does not maintain a user account database, we cannot provide account-level deletion of data that we do not maintain.
Isstara uses or may communicate with the following third-party services:
N2YO — ISS pass prediction and position data.
Google Maps SDK for Android — map display and related SDK services.
Google Play Billing — premium purchases.
Google Play In-App Review — review functionality.
Android platform Geocoder — converting coordinates into place names where supported.
Cloudflare Workers — backend infrastructure for the optional live ISS community feature.
These services may process information according to their own privacy policies and terms.
Google Play requires developers to understand and appropriately disclose third-party SDK data practices used by their apps.
Isstara is not designed to collect personal information from children.
The App does not require users to create an account or provide names, email addresses, telephone numbers, or similar personal information.
If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us through the App, please contact us using the details below.
You can control several aspects of data access through Android and the App, including:
whether to grant approximate or precise location permission;
whether to allow notifications;
whether to use optional AR features;
whether to use optional widgets;
whether to use premium features; and
whether to use the optional live community map feature.
You can revoke Android permissions at any time through your device settings.
Please note that disabling location permission may prevent location-dependent ISS pass prediction and tracking features from working correctly.
Google Play's current policy requires sensitive permissions to be necessary for the app's core functionality and used for disclosed purposes.
We may update this Privacy Policy when our App, services, SDKs, data practices, or applicable legal requirements change.
When we make material changes, we will update the Last Updated date at the beginning of this Privacy Policy.
