Aron Gurwitsch and the correlation between Gestalt and phenomenology
Brenda C. Soares
Gurwitsch presents us with three distinct but complementary points to understand the correlation between phenomenology and Gestalt. The first is the parallelism that Gurwitsch presupposes between the transcendental reduction and the dismiss of constancy hypothesis, which allows him to apply elements of Gestalt theory in a scope free from any naturalistic analysis; The second is the abandonment of the distinction between matter and form and its implications for phenomenology, such as the changing role of intentionality; And, finally, there is the presence of a Gestalt coherence that goes beyond the question of independent or founding parts, as all parts of a whole are dependent on the Gestalt context. The intention at the moment is not to resolve the questions that Gurwitsch poses, but at least to clarify the basis on which they are built.
