International Symposium on Isotope Physiology, Ecology, and Geochemistry

26th August - 2nd September, 2022

In Person (Sapporo, Japan & Ansan, Korea) & Virtual (Zoom)

Welcome to IsoPEG'22!

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the International Symposium on Isotope Physiology, Ecology, and Geochemistry 2022 (IsoPEG’22).

Over the last four decades, insights from stable isotope analysis of C, N, H, O, and S have brought impressive advances in the study of energy and nutrient cycles in the biosphere. Furthermore, stable isotope analysis at the level of individual organic compounds has emerged as a particularly powerful tool in diverse field sciences. Indeed, this compound-specific isotope analysis (CSIA) of organic compounds has provided unprecedented insight in the complex biological, ecological, and geochemical processes in biosphere, particularly for illustrating function, interactions, and resource use of diverse organisms in biosphere and ecosphere, and tracing sources and delivery of organic compounds and associated energy input/output in the earth surface.

IsoPEG’22 has two scientific themes: ‘development/improvement of method and methodology’, and ‘Application of CSIA’. The aim of this symposium is thus to share the latest development/improvement, discoveries, findings, thoughts, ideas, and even unexplainable data, related to the above two themes, for better utilizing ‘isotope ratios’ and for accelerating application studies in physiology, ecology, and geochemistry, as well as to build on further great collaborations.

Coming together again!

Due to COVID-19 situation, we will hold IsoPEG’22 as a hybrid symposium to take both in-person and virtual formats. The pandemic still force us many limitation on scientific activities. This could still be a prolonged period of social distancing and other containment measures in force for more times. While the value of connections and spontaneous meetings made in person cannot be fully replicated by virtual, the pandemic has opened our eyes to new possibilities about advantage of the best of both in-person and virtual formats in hybrid symposiums. Indeed, virtual symposium will provide platforms for sharing our scientific activities to wider audiences than ever before. At IsoPEG’22, we would like to take the advantage of both in-person and virtual as a hybrid format, and would love to share exciting sciences in our communities.

We look forward to seeing you in Sapporo or front of monitor!
