By 1878, because of the amnesty law issued by the government of Don Benito Juárez , the former General López Uraga regained ownership of the Islas Marias. Sooner than later the islands were sold in 1879 to a neighbor of Tepic , Nayarit for 45 thousand dollars. That's how Don Manuel Carpena became the new owner of the islands, he and his family operated the Marias, salinas mainly islands. After the death of Don Manuel Carpena, his widow Gila Azcona Carpena sold them in January 1905 the federal government.
