Protection for the Far West End
could be extended to the West Surf Beach

by Stan Graves, June 25, 2021

At the link below is a summary of a letter I sent today to Chris Blankenship, Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Recently, there has been increased funding activity associated with Dauphin Island, all of which is very important to our wonderful island. Of particular interest to me was the purchase of the 838 acres of the Far West End that will now become public property, with the goal of protecting endangered species.

This presents a golden opportunity for all of the West End southern shoreline of the island to benefit.

The now-public Far West End property will require protection by the Corps of Engineers. If the Corps helps to protect and preserve the West Surf Beach, it will assist in the job of protecting the Far West End.
