ISLAND VOICES CHAMBER CHOIR captures the human spirit through experiential a cappella performance, drawing audiences into a world of rich emotion, exotic sounds, and sheer fun. The music they perform encapsulates the human experience, allowing the thoughts and feelings of human beings to be shared, building relationships between listeners and performers.

Contents

Program to be selected from the following.

Chi la Gagliarda, Donne [All who love music] – Baldassare Donato

All who love music, hear what we are bringing.

Come hear our song and listen to our voices

As we gather here together, we make music with our singing.

Come Away, Sweet Love – Thomas Greaves

Come away sweet love, and play thee

Lest grief and care betray thee

Leave off this sad lamenting

And take thy heart’s contending

The nymphs to sport invite thee

And running in and out delights thee.

Sing We and Chant It – Thomas Morley

Sing we and chant it

While love doth grant it.

All things invite us

Now to delight us.

Not long youth lastest,

And old age hasteth.

Now is best leisure

To take our pleasure.

Ubi Caritas – Imant Raminsh

Ubi caritas est amor Deus ibi est

Where there is charity and love, God is there.

Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor

Gathering us together is Christ’s love

Timeamus et amemus Deum vivum

Let us revere and love the living God.

Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero

And love one another with a sincere heart

Ubi caritas est amor Deus ibi est

Where there is charity and love, God is there.

Simul ergo cum in unum congregamur

Likewise, therefore, when we come together as one

cessent jurgia maligna cessent lites.

Let us cease all quarrels and strife

Et in medio nostri sit Christus Deus

And in the midst of us, let Christ be

Ubi caritas est amor Deus ibi est

Where there is charity and love, God is there.

Simul quo que cum beatis videamus

May we also see, along with the blessed,

Glorianter vultum tuum Christe Deus

The glory of your face, O Christ

Gaudium quod est immensum atque probum

Let there be immeasurable joy

Saecula infinita saeculorum.  Amen.

Now and forevermore. Amen.

Meplalian – Budi Susanto Yohanes

Penonton-penonton ampun, beribu ampun. Titiang kalintang pongah.

We (the dancers) ask a thousand apologies of the audience;

Bocah tanpe dasar. Mesolah ulihanjengah. Meplalian briak-briuk sinamian.

We are innocent children without experience Wanting only to dance our best, playing and swaying together.

Weave a Silence – Janet Smiley

[I] weave a silence onto my lips,

weave a silence into my mind,

weave a silence within my heart.

[I] close my ears to distractions,

close my eyes to attractions,

close my heart to temptations.

Calm me, O Lord, as you stilled the storm

Still me, O Lord, keep me from harm

Let all the tumult within me cease.

Fold me, Lord, in your peace

— David Adam

Dies Irae Michael – John Trotta

Dies irae, dies illa

Day of wrath, that day

Teste David cum Sibylla

(The testimony of David with Sibyl)

Solvet saeclum in favilla

Will dissolve the world in ashes

Mors stupebit et natura

Death and nature will marvel

Cum resurget creatura

With the risen creature

Judicanti responsura

To respond to the judge

Recordare, Jesu pie, Ne me perdas,

Remember, merciful Jesus, Leave me not

Huic ergo parce, Deus

Therefore, spare him, O God

Dona eis requiem.  Salva me!

Grant them eternal rest.  Save me!

O Earth, Loving Mother – Mark Sirett

O earth, loving mother

Nurture us, breathe in us

Something of your beauty,

Your wisdom and your light.

Your ancient mountains, gleaming seas

Fill our hearts with care;

Through blazing sun and darkest night,

Breath in us, breathe in us

O earth, who was long before our time,

And after many years remains.

Careless and blind we wander from you.

Breath in us breathe in us.

— Archibald Lampman

Calypso  Jan Holdstork

The Fox – arr. Richter & Shaeffer

Cover Me in Sunshine – Maureen McDonald and Amy Allen

Paper Heart – Jeremy Fisher

Count on It – Kevin Memley

Scars To Your Beautiful – Caracciolo, Tillman & Wansel

At the Milonga – Sandra Milliken

Come to the Milonga where they dance the tango

Breathe the fire and passion of the dance of love

Walking, turning, pause in a close embrace

Captivating rhythms tell us Este es el tango.

Come to the Milonga,  Let the spirit guide you

Be intoxicated by the dance duet

Step and bend and pose in the line of dance.

Be transported by the music, Este es el tango.

Telamo.  I love you.

— Murray Milliken

¡Cantar! [Sing!] – Jay Althouse

Good-Night – Paul Laurence Dunbar & Matthew Emery

River in Judea – Marcus, Feldman & Leavitt

Alleluia, Alleluia Amy Bernon

Il Zapaione Musicale [A musical dessert] – Adriano Banchieri

Come, now, as we are drinking, join together in singing

Who sings soprano?  I am a bold soprano!

Where is the alto?  Here is my sultry alto!

Here is the tenor!  (We adore our tenor)

Who sings in a falsetto?  Oh, I can sing falsetto!

Are you the basso?  I am the bass and sing with bravado!

This celebration, in mixed formation, is your recreation,

A sweet and tasty musical creation.

Sparrow’s Jig – Bruce Sled

As long as the sparrow flies the barley grows as does the rye

And all the while a lilting cry

The sparrow is a fiddling a tiny bow upon her wing

As I roved out one May morning

I hear my love so sweetly sing

With shoes so black and stockings white

With hair as dark as night

She had a dark and roving eye

A shiny things she longed to spy

Her wings so quick upon the sky

She left not a feather for me to sigh

Danny Boy – arr. Casey Rule

Oh, Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling

From glen to glen and down the mountainside.

The summer’s gone and all the roses falling.

‘Tis you, ‘tis you must go and I must bide.

So come ye back when summer’s in the meadow

Or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow

‘Tis I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow

Oh Danny Boy, oh Danny Boy, I love you so.

And if you come, and all the flowers are dying,

If I am dead, as dead I well may be,

You’ll come and find where I am lying

And kneel and say an “Ave” there for me.

And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,

And all my grave will warm and sweeter be.

For you will bend and tell me that you love me,

And I will sleep in peace until you come to me.

Vocal Pizzicato – Raymond Rhea
