Three years later, Island Fat Ass film productions is excited to bring you the long-awaited holiday sequel to their #1 box office smash hit.
We start with a series of limited-showing evening shorts and daytime matinees starting on Dec 4. Some of these are new, some are re-releases, while others are the never-before-seen Director’s Cut versions.
As is customary, there will be a launch party on Dec 5th featuring the classic short film Chicken Run (aka Chicken Mile). Official hors d'oeuvres will be available for purchase (limit 4 per person). DJ elf will be back to spin some chicken-inspired tracks on the track.
The feature film, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, will be screened on Saturday, December 14. As sequels mostly go, it probably won't be as good as the original, copies the original plot too much, and may feel a bit rushed. But it will be one to remember...
**IMPORTANT: Please re-read the club creed on the main page. You MUST be prepared and self-sufficient on all IFA runs. Know the route. IFA runs are not led group runs.
Week 1 | Evening Shorts | Showtimes @ 7 pm
Wed, Dec 4: Love, Actually (Director’s Cut) | 7 km | https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2804888
This version has a sad alternate ending where most of the Loveshack trail is now gone. We’ll catch a glimpse of its former glory before turning around at the private property sign with a broken heart. Meet at the entrance off Bellamy Road.
Thu, Dec 5: Chicken Run | 1 mile | Esquimalt High School track
This is the famous Chicken Mile! Like the Beer Mile but every lap you eat chicken wings (or alt-chicken options).
There are three "chicken" themed options to satisfy most dietary restrictions:
Chicken: 4 dusty hot chicken wings (2 drumettes + 2 wingettes) from Chicken on the Run. Sign up on the Google Sheet. You must e-transfer $8 to Karen by Wed, Dec 4 @ 10pm per Chicken Mile runner (klaberee@uvic.ca; auto deposit enabled).
Egg: 4 small hardboiled eggs – pre-peeled – salt and pepper or dipping sauce optional (please bring your own; sign up on the Google sheet so we know how many runners to expect)
Falafel: 4 crispy chickpea balls - dipping sauce optional (please bring your own; sign up on the Google sheet so we know how many runners to expect)
Race regulations: (Click HERE for full Chicken / Egg / Chickpea Mile Rules)
Start – Eat 1st Wing – Run 1st Lap – Eat 2nd Wing – Run 2nd Lap – Eat 3rd Wing – Run 3rd Lap – Eat 4th Wing – Run 4th Lap – Finish
The wing (or alt-wing) MUST be finished and swallowed before you start running each lap
Week 1 | Daytime Matinees | Showtimes @ 9 am
Sat, Dec 7: Home Alone 2 | 17 km | https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2786475
It ain’t New York, but there is a home (Kinghorn Cabin) and you get to dodge bullets (Cole Hill). And maybe Kevin will show up. Meet at the Ross Durrance parking lot.
Sun, Dec 8: Batman Returns | 14.5 km | https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1751748
Hurray, the fire is out and the trails have reopened. Meet at Sooke Potholes parking lot #2. A re-release of the one that starred the Penguin. Though apparently Emperor Penguin is a different villain. This one was a stretch either way. Also, have you heard about the one that swam to Denmark? (Don't even think about doing this route without the gpx track.)
Week 2 | Evening Shorts | Showtimes vary
Wed, Dec 11 | Showtime @ 7 pm | Gremlins (Director’s Cut) | 8 km | https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2786521
Wherein we carelessly test the three rules of owning a mogwai by checking out Little Face, Ruffles, Get Wet and Night Shift. Done at night as exposure to sunlight may kill you. This director’s cut edition starts at Whitehead Park.
Thu, Dec 12 | Showtime @ 6 pm | Jumanji | 6.8 km | https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2786471
Mainly road with a zip across a few parks, including High”The Rock”park before grabbing some grub at the pub. Run starts and ends at the new Saxe Point Public House. Note the earlier start time.
Week 2 | Feature Film | Showtime @ 8 am
Sat, Dec 14: Die Hard 2: Die Harder | 50-ish km | https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2793215
Meet at Sooke Hills Wilderness Parking Lot. The full route linked above is close to 50 km and is once again designed as three different loops so you can circle back to your car aid-station. You can also do one or two loops of your choice instead (individual gpx links below). Full route does the three loops in this order:
Loop 1: Humpback Loop | 13 km | https://www.plotaroute.com/map/2785709
Loop 2: Empress Loop | 26 km | https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2779208
Loop 3: Sugarloaf Loop | 10 km | https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2797459
Remember your headlamp. Sunrise = 7:58 am, Sunset = 4:18 pm.
This is not a fast course. Those doing the full route will likely need to move their car outside the parking lot after the 2nd loop to avoid being towed after sunset. Park on the side of the road if you can find a spot, otherwise park 300m south of the parking lot at the mailboxes.
