Catella of Cilicia- Award of Arms in Elegaic Couplet

Elegaic Couplet is a Latin meter of alternating hexameter and pentameter. The scansion of the meter looks something like:

Nature provides them the molds, both to desire and remand:

Unified herds shake earth, galloping, pointed onward by a lead mare;

Flocking young ravens, instead, selfishly fight for their share.

Virtue Catella shows: equine noblesse of heart, equal in aspect.

Nobles lead cavalry’s charge: such should her title reflect.
