Elegaic Couplet is a Latin meter of alternating hexameter and pentameter. The scansion of the meter looks something like:
- U | - U | - U | - U | - u u | - -
- U | - U | - || - u u | - u u | -
Here is a link from Coleridge that exemplifies the form in English:
In the hexameter rises the fountain's silvery column,
In the pentameter aye falling in melody back.

Adelhait, Christoph; King, Queen of Atlantia see subjects who outstand;
Nature provides them the molds, both to desire and remand:
Unified herds shake earth, galloping, pointed onward by a lead mare;
Flocking young ravens, instead, selfishly fight for their share.
Virtue Catella shows: equine noblesse of heart, equal in aspect.
Nobles lead cavalry’s charge: such should her title reflect.
We then, at Highland Foorde’s Riverside Melee Revel, on 1st of June,
Arms for Catella award. Others now guide with this boon.
We, Christoph and Adelhait, König and Königin of Atlantia find that Catella of Cilicia, who has labored long and hard in Our Royal Lands, do We award the following Arms:
Per chevron gules and purpure, a horse salient and a cat salient respectant, in chief a compass rose argent as her distinctive device, with infringement by none.
König Königin
Verum est.
