1) (REQUIRED) ENTRY POEM — That most excellent knight Duke Oldcastle himself in his seminal work, The Fundamentals of Oldcastle Sword and Shield, described the fair Kingdom of Atlantia as “the best of all possible Kingdoms”. The entry poem for the Smackdown this year should wallow in the shameless partiality of praising somewhere you call home. No limitations on length, style, or kind of home.

Shire of Roxbury Mill
I sing of my stone-town,
a sure-footed place
Freshly wrenched
from rubied thanes,
Their blood-banded sails
brought by the flow
Of the rock creek.
Scourge turned kith,
Their sharps and shields
since shunned for peace.
I sing of the gate-herd,
Who gives fine greetings
Regardless of route
Or rank of guest:
They join a jewel-strand,
Joy-threaded and varied.
All are welcome within
the walls of Roxbury;
If come in common cause,
Concord is theirs.
I sing of the grown gold:
wheat, sun-shamer.
By millstone’s might,
many may feast.
Our bread a boon:
brake, it brothers makes
In high hearth-hall,
and hale shall they be!
None leave with light pack,
nor leaden spirit.
I sing of the silver,
springing from earth here
Like Kvasir’s mead,
that kingly cup.
More Ring-givers’ richness
resides within us,
(Our works, and words
and wells of kindness)
Than weighty war-chests
won by bloodshed.
I sing of our burgh-clerks,
by brightness blessed;
Opaline officers
Often missed
By myth-maker
And merry skald.
The truest trusses
Raise tallest sod-roof,
Though unseen under
All the green.
I sing of a full festoon,
Finery-arch brooch-bound:
A Bifrost breast-ward,
Bridge to heart’s heaven,
