Made as a more casual, rugged ensemble during the COVID 19 Pandemic.
Slightly more documentation can be found at this link.
Needless to say, I was extremely excited to have pockets in a pair of my reenactment pants. Pouches constantly swinging into your thigh do get old after a little.
This doublet and breeches initially started as a stash-busting project: my wife had leftover wool from a Viking-era project she had finished (the light blue) and some twill tape. I had a pile of canvas leftover from a summer camp teaching sewing to children, in which the manager had purchased much softer canvas than I had initially asked for. I would later discover they had purchased a twill-woven, soft denim instead of a duck canvas, and definitely asked to take it home.
This doublet and breeches was also a great experiment in a number of ways. This was the first time I had made eyelets (only four, for the ties on the breeches; the first time adding decoration to a gathered garment link this; the first time adding pockets to my garb (though I had practiced on a commission earlier last year); my first time finished a doublet by flat-lining and sewing the pieces together; and my first time using a new c. 2020 doublet pattern that hoped to solve the collar issues I had with the previous one (I am proud to report that it did).
Overall, I am very excited with this ensemble, and hope I can throw it on for casual rapier play or performing arts events for years and years to come!
As of this writing, I still need to add buttons and buttonholes to each sleeve...but that is for another time.
