The ISEE Symposium, which is a large international workshop held once a year as a flagship symposium of collaborative research with ISEE, intends to promote space-Earth environmental research. The scope of this symposium in the past years covered all research subjects on space–Earth environment including the deepening of a specific research subject, interdisciplinary research across different fields, prospects, and plans for a new research subject.
In 2023, we are pleased to hold the 6th ISEE symposium – Workshop for Interaction of Ocean, Atmosphere, and Land by Remote Sensing and Numerical Model –. This symposium focuses on marine environments undergoing complex changes owing to intricate interactions among ocean, atmosphere, and land, influenced by human activities and climate variations. These interactions exert a notable impact on coastal areas, particularly in the Asia-Oceania regions. While traditional ocean observations have limitations in both time and space, satellite observations are restricted by weather conditions and confined to horizontal distributions at the sea surface. New observations with drones offer cloud-free high-resolution views and precise sampling. This symposium explores the importance of ocean color observations, from satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles as well as the role of modeling in monitoring changes and addressing environmental issues such as red tide and eutrophication. These observations and modeling efforts also contribute to understanding the consequences of global warming and foster marine environmental sustainability.
The 2023 symposium consists of a 3-day workshop scheduled from Sunday to Tuesday, December 17–19, and a 2-day training course from Wednesday to Thursday, December 20–21. The 3-day workshop is anticipated to attract approximately 110 in-person attendees and additional 10 online participants.
