Why do we dream?
Written by Diva Arora
Have you ever thought to yourself; "why do we dream?” Well, if not, why don’t you think about it now. In history, when humans started getting dreams for the first time, the Mesopotamian kings would draw what happened in their dream, and after that, the Egyptians wrote about their dreams in a dream book. Usually when we dream it is linked to scenarios in our day, or if not, its random objects or scenes always have a meaning. For example, a shoe symbolizes; power, strength, and security. Sleeping is healthy, but one of the main reasons is that when we dream it's healthy to go through our unconscious primitive thoughts.
Through this, we can reflect on why we feel a certain way. For example, in 2010 researchers discovered that humans are better at a 3D maze after dreaming of going through it in a dream. In fact, they are ten times better at it. There are 10,000 neural connections within the architecture of our brain, because those connections are there. Your dreams are like a distraction while the brain feels something is unsafe or useless that you thought of during the day. When you have dreams, it keeps important ones or memorable ones in the long term. When we dream, they help us mentally prepare for scenarios even if it's not the exact one. We can still be prepared for it morally.
Something most people are mistaken about is when we have bad dreams that reflect any trauma or fear; it’s not because we’re going through anything. It’s because our brains are healing from these real-life situations. Sometimes when we are dreaming, it's never related even a tiny bit to our actual lives... it’s for a stronger mindset or mentality. After all these reasons you might feel curious or want to experience another dream, but for that you need to be mentally happy to sleep.
