What makes a school truly a school? Its students and staff. The real atmosphere of the school comes alive through their presence; the clamoring of students rushing in at the start of the day, lockers swinging open, quick conversations and easy laughter, alongside dedication and guidance of the teachers, this is what gives meaning to the word school. It is not only a place of learning, but also a place to have fun with friends, try new things, and form lifelong bonds. For ISD, its meaning of school is deeper. It's a place where students, staff and everything in between can grow, connect and build community.

The new building embodies this same goal, providing a space where staff, teachers and students  can learn, thrive and continue shaping the ISD’s vibrant and growing community. 

The grand opening event marks how far the ISD community has come. From the first year, starting with only 12 students, to its second year with 35 students, ISD has now grown to 327 students and 63 staff members.  This new building reflects that growth, and is a testament to the school's remarkable achievement.

On the 7 of November, the official Grand Opening of Secondary International School Delft event occurred. The event began with a series of speeches led by Gemeente Delft: Karin Schrederhof, Lucas Onderwijs: Jan Andries Wolthuis,  Katrin Fox IB and from Atelier Pro: Dorte Kristensen

Across these speeches, themes stood out. How the ISD building represents many important “firsts”, recognition of the people who began the mission to create ISD, the notion that a thriving school community needs a home and acknowledgement of both the successes and challenges the school has faced while remaining united.  

These speakers reflected on how ISD’s  identity is not only shaped by academics but through its students, families and staff.  And that the new building enables this as it provides spaces for social interaction,  art and sport engagements, promoting life outside the classroom.

The event concluded with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, symbolising the opening of the new building and the beginning of a new chapter for ISD.
