Cinnamon Rolls
Written by Mia
Cinnamon rolls are a popular baked treat known for their soft texture, sweet filling, and warm, comforting flavour. While they may look fancy, they are actually quite simple to make with a little time and care. This guide explains how to bake about 20 cinnamon rolls from scratch, using basic ingredients and steps that are easy to follow.
PS. Do not be like me and put salt instead of sugar, so please be careful with the ingredients and check your labels. Enjoy this recipe! (this is not the correct recipe I tweaked it from the website so it can be heathier)
──────────────── Ingredients ────────────────
The Dough:
850g all-purpose flour
500–600ml warm milk or water
2 teaspoons dry yeast
100g sugar
2 large eggs
100g unsalted butter, softened
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
The Filling:
200g brown sugar (about 1 cup)
2–4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
80g melted butter
──────────────── Method ────────────────
Step 1: Activate the Yeast
Mix the yeast with a little sugar from the 100g and warm milk or water. Let it sit for a few minutes until it becomes foamy. This helps the dough rise properly.
Step 2: Make the Dough
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter. Stir until a dough forms, then knead it until smooth and stretchy.
Step 3: Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 2 hours. It should double in size.
Step 4: Add the Filling
Roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Spread the melted butter over it, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly on top.
Step 5: Roll and Cut
Roll the dough into a log shape, then cut it into 20 equal pieces.
Step 6: Second Rise
Place the rolls in a greased baking pan, leaving space between them. Cover and let them rise again for 30 to 45 minutes.
Step 7: Bake
Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F). Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
Serving Tip
Cinnamon rolls taste best when served warm. You can enjoy them plain or add a glaze or frosting for extra sweetness. They’re perfect for breakfast, dessert, or sharing with friends and family.
Conclusion
Making cinnamon rolls is a fun and rewarding activity. It teaches patience and basic baking skills, resulting in a delicious treat that everyone will enjoy. Whether you're new to baking or an experienced baker, this recipe is a great way to try something homemade and delicious.
