───────── Introducing Beyond the Mic! ─────────
Since the beginning of the ISD Chronicles, members of the team have wanted to launch a podcast, to share our thoughts and ideas of the happenings in our ISD community, and the wider world. For this edition, we have made that happen! Atrisa and Liya, from our new Editorial Team have decided to start a podcast series called Beyond the Mic.
It all started with the realisation, provided by Liya, that International Women’s Day was on the 8th of March, and our newest edition was set to be finished on the 2nd of March, and they both wanted to commemorate such an important day for women all around the world. At first, an article was set to be written, but then Atrisa had the idea that it would be interesting to create a podcast, with a series about International Women’s Day with an introduction to what it’s all about and interviews with students, teachers and parents alike.
Beyond that, we want to keep the podcast ongoing, with different topics and different people. This would mean talking about important days of the year like International Women’s Day, important events happening at school and around the world, etc. We hope this podcast will continue at ISD and become a part of the school itself, a tradition in a sense, with others contributing to it and taking it far and beyond.
We also hope this podcast will give those who decide to be interviewed and the makers themselves a chance to talk about topics that matter to them that may not fit lengthwise in a typical article. This will also provide those taking part the opportunity to work on their oral skills, as speaking one’s mind is something that may be daunting and even difficult for many. We hope that the ISD community will listen to our podcast and hopefully learn something new, or maybe even listen to it for some (hopefully!) calming background noise. No matter whether this is your very first, or fiftieth podcast, everyone is welcome to hop on, or simply listen.
Thank you, and we hope you’ll listen to the very first series of our podcast Beyond the Mic with Atrisa and Liya: International Women’s Day and start with the first episode: Women Who Inspire: Understanding International Women’s Day. We hope you’ll enjoy it!
── Celebrating International Woman's Day: Our Very First Series! ──
We wanted to highlight a meaningful topic for our first Beyond the Mic series: International Women's Day (IWD)! With IWD happening on March 8th and our edition wrapping up on March 2, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to celebrate and consider the significance of this day.
Our International Women’s Day podcast series will feature three episodes, each diving into a different aspect of IWD:
🎙Episode 1 - Women who Inspire: Understanding International Women’s Day
In our first episode, we explore the history of IWD, why it’s important, and highlight inspiring women from the past and present; including Eleanor Roosevelt, Malala Yousafzai, and more.
🎙Episode 2, 3, & 4 - Voices from Our Community
ISD students and teachers and will be interviewed to learn more about their experiences, opinions on gender equality, and what IWD means to them.
🎙Episode 5 - Your Say: Reading and Discussing Poll Responses
We’ve sent out a poll with questions about IWD, and in this episode, we’ll be reading and discussing the responses. What does IWD mean to our school community? How do people feel about gender equality today? Find out with us!
We hope these episodes will spark meaningful conversations, highlight different perspectives, and help us all reflect on the progress made toward gender equality; while also recognising the work that still needs to be done.
Don't forget to listen to our International Women's Day series on Beyond the Mic!
