Frogs are fun, interesting and surprisingly easy to draw once you know the steps. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create your own frog, step by step, from the head and eyes all the way to the arms, legs, and feet. By the end of this tutorial, you’ll be doodling frogs like a pro!
Step 1: Draw the Head
1
Near the top of your page, draw an oval shape to form the frog’s head.
2
On top of the oval, add two small, rounded bumps. This is where the eyes will go.
Step 2: Draw the Eyes
3
Under each bump, draw a semi-circle.
4
Draw a straight line across the bottom of each semi-circle to complete the eye shape.
5
Now draw a small curve inside each eye to create the pupils.
Step 3: Draw the Face
6
Inside the head, draw a large curved line for the mouth.
7
If you want, add small curved lines at each end of the mouth.
8
Add two small dots between the eyes for the nose.
Step 4: Draw the Body
9
Below the head, draw a curved rectangular shape. This will form the frog’s body.
Step 5: Draw the Arms
10
From the semi-circle, draw a V shape to show the position of the arms.
11
From each side of the V, draw a short line downward to form the arms.
12
Add small curved lines at the ends to create the fingers.
Step 5: Draw the Legs
13
On each side of the body, draw a large oval shape to form the legs.
14
Add a curved line through the centre of each leg to show where the leg bends.
Step 6: Add the Feet
15
At the bottom of each leg, draw small feet with simple rounded toes.
Step 7: Outline and Clean up
16
Carefully trace over your drawing using a dark pen, leaving out any unnecessary lines.
17
Wait a minute for the ink to dry and then erase any remaining sketch lines to keep the drawing neat and clear.
Step 8: Colour your Frog
18
You can colour your frog any way you like. For inspiration, look online for photos of frogs and pick one you like. Here is one that I choose.
19
Here is how you can colour your frog like the red-eyed tree frog which has many cool, bright colours:
Head: light green, with some dark green shading around the eyes and nose.
Eyes: reddish-orange.
Body: light yellow.
Arms and legs: light green with dark green lines along the sides.
Hands and feet: orange.
Great job! You’ve finished drawing your frog and it looks fantastic. Now it’s time to have fun with colours! You can try colouring your frog any way you like, or look online for inspiration. You could draw a pond or a simple landscape around your frog or even draw multiple frogs, each with different colours and patterns. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect the first try, keep practising and you’ll improve every time!
