Privacy Policy for IronHorseAtlas

WHO THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR
IronHorseAtlas is a reference and quiz app about the locomotives of the world. It is published for
railway enthusiasts, and it is built so that using it requires giving up nothing about yourself.
There is no sign-up screen, no e-mail field, no social login, and no advertising identifier. You
open the app and read; the app does not learn who you are.
WHAT THE APP RECORDS
Only what you do inside it: which of the 36 cards you have marked as read, which ones sit on your
roster, the results of the quizzes you finish, the day-streak that follows from them, the notes you
pin to a card, the name you optionally type into the Yard screen, and your settings for speed
units, difficulty and reminders. None of it is transmitted anywhere. There is no analytics package,
no crash reporter, no tracking library, and no third-party software development kit of any kind
inside the binary.
WHERE THAT INFORMATION LIVES
In the app's own private container on your device, in three small files written by IronHorseAtlas
itself, plus a handful of system preference values. iOS keeps that container sealed from other
apps. Nothing is synchronised to a server operated by the developer, because the developer operates
no server. Removing the app removes the container and everything in it; the Reset All Data button
in the Yard screen empties it without an uninstall.
THE HISTORIAN AND OPENAI
The Telegraph tab is the one part of the app that leaves your device. When you send a question, ask
for a comparison, or request a deep dive, the text of that request together with the locomotive
facts drawn from the app's own catalogue is passed to OpenAI, which runs the gpt-4o-mini model and
returns the answer that appears on screen. Your name, your roster, your quiz history and your notes
are never part of that request. The first time you open Telegraph the app explains this and waits
for you to agree; decline and no request is ever made. OpenAI's handling of the data it receives is
described at https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
REMINDERS
If you switch on the daily reminder, IronHorseAtlas asks iOS for notification permission and then
schedules a local notification for the time you chose. The schedule is created on the device by the
device. No reminder passes through a push server, and refusing the permission leaves every other
part of the app working exactly as before.
CONTROL AND DELETION
Because nothing is held remotely, there is no account to close and no export to request from us.
Everything the app knows can be erased in two ways: Reset All Data inside the app, or deleting the
app from the Home screen. Both are immediate and neither can be reversed.
CHILDREN
IronHorseAtlas is written for a general audience of railway enthusiasts and is not directed at
children under 13. The app does not knowingly gather information from them, and since it gathers no
personal information from anyone, there is nothing about a young reader for it to hold.
REVISIONS
If the app gains a feature that changes any of the above, this document is rewritten before that
feature ships, and the date at the top of the page moves forward. The current version always
describes the version of the app on the App Store.
