Not since the mid-2000s has there been a very large conference dealing with the Iron Age in Britain. Since that time there have been major advances in methods, important new discoveries and the publication of some key sites for understanding the period. We feel the time is right to take stock, address the big questions and debates and consider the new research directions leading towards the mid-21st century.ย
Iron Age Dialogues will be a three-day conference that incorporates both longer presentations that attempt synthesis and address major themes, with shorter talks and posters that focus on key new discoveries (e.g. objects recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme) and sites.ย
Weโre particularly keen to platform established scholars and early career researchers alongside archaeologists from the commercial sector. Indeed, it is the developer-funded work that has produced many of the most exciting new findings in recent years and this needs serious consideration.
