Irmina’s Kakanin began in the heart of the public market in Meycauayan, Bulacan. Irmina and her husband, William, ran a humble food stall, serving Filipino breakfast favorites—pansit, fried rice, sandwhich, kape, and kakanin. Their first offering was the classic Biko, followed by Maja Blanca, lovingly prepared with recipes handed down through generations. With each dish they served, they were building something bigger than just a business—they were feeding dreams and raising four daughters.
Life took an unexpected turn when Irmina became a widow at 47. Suddenly, she was a single mother with one income and four children to send to school. The days were long and the sacrifices great. But instead of giving up, Irmina leaned into what she knew best—the comfort of tradition and the wisdom of her grandmother’s kitchen.
One by one, she began recreating those delicacies from memory—sapin-sapin, kutsinta, kalamay, puto latik and many more. She stayed true to the old ways, even as modern ingredients and cooking techniques became more accessible. That authenticity became her signature.
Through dedication and grit, Irmina not only kept her stall running—she sent all her daughters to college, turning her kitchen into a symbol of resilience. Her kakanin stall had become more than just a source of income; it was the foundation of her family’s future.
When the pandemic hit and markets shut down, Irmina turned her home into her new kitchen. She began selling kakanin and pansit in her neighborhood, Word spread quickly, and soon she was delivering to nearby provinces and parts of Metro Manila. That period of uncertainty became a turning point. With the help of her daughters, the business took on a name, a brand, and a vision.
Today, Irmina’s Kakanin is a recognized name in Marilao and Meycauayan, Bulacan—known for its warm, nostalgic flavors and its commitment to homemade, traditional kakanin.
Now lovingly managed by one of her daughters, Irmina’s legacy lives on. Every tray of kakanin we prepare is not just food—it’s a memory, a piece of heritage, a family’s journey, sacrifice, and the enduring strength of a mother.
