Our next family workshop will be Social Communication Skills for the Playground and Beyond!
Ever wonder why kids communicate the way they do? Want to know more about what is developmentally typical communication at this age? Want tips on how to role model strong communication skills for your 3rd grader?
Come to the IRLC 2031 family workshop for current Indian Ridge 3rd graders and their parents and guardians to build community with our grade! The students will get to practice social communication skills and balance finding their voice with listening to others. The adults will learn about developmental stages of communciation and social skills at this age and how to support your child. Siblings welcome but there is not any child care, so all kids need to be able to participate in the workshop or sit with their parents.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
SEL advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation. SEL can help address various forms of inequity and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools and contribute to safe, healthy, and just communities. (CASEL Website, 2021)
