Ira William Miller was born December 26, 1849, in Des Plaines, Illinois, the son of Henry & Catherine Countryman Miller.
On September 14, 1882, he married Elizabeth Zaneis in Tazewell County.
Ira was an undertaker, and he was in business with his in-laws. In the current Sentimental Journey building on the square, they ran Zaneis & Miller Furniture & Undertaking. Miller would eventually take over the entire business, and the furniture/undertaking site would remain until around 1918, when Ira & Elizabeth moved to Florida.
Politically, Miller entered the city scene as an alderman, then was elected Mayor in 1911 at the age of 62, serving one two-year term.
Both Ira and Elizabeth died in 1925-1926 within a year of each other and are buried in Glendale Cemetery.
