My new iPad is not making a sound when someone messages me on messenger. FT and instant messages are working fine. Have checked mute, volume, notification settings and restarted iPad but still no sound. Any ideas?

I just upgraded to an iPhone XR, and the notification sound for Facebook Messenger has changed. I can't find how to change it back to the "classic" messenger sound, I only have a choice between sound off or on. Does anyone know how to change it back?

My mother got a 12 Mini, it's her first iPhone since iPhone 4. The last one I used was a 6S, so I'm not really up to date with iOS either. She wants to change the Messenger notification sound to something more subtle, because the default sound is loud and irritating. Where can we do it? It's not in Sound settings in system settings or in Messenger settings in system settings. All you can do as far as I could tell is turn the sound off for all notifications and calls from Messenger? I see iOS went a long way with customization since I last used it so I imagine there has got to be a way to change notification sound for one particular notification channel.

You can configure most of the sound settings on the iPhone in the Sounds section of the Settings app. However, to change the sounds for Facebook Messages, you must configure the settings within Notifications. Three types of notifications exist that allow you to choose from a banner, an alert or no notification at all. You can also set Facebook to use sounds to enhance your notifications. Once you set up your alerts for Facebook, new messages will trigger a sound to notify you when somebody messages you.

Next, you have to check the Notification sound. As it is primarily a sound issue, you must set a valid file as your Notification sound. To verify this setting, tap on the Notification sound option, and choose the desired sound you want to play for notifications. Similarly, tap on Ringtone and choose a sound you want to be played when someone calls you on Messenger.

In other words, you can try to change the notification sound for Facebook Messenger and check if it solves the issue or not. Apart from that, toggle the In-app sounds button to turn it on. Please note that if it is already on, do not change the setting.

Hi, I have problem with my messenger notification tone. Suddenly after some update it has changed itself the sound of incoming message to default iPhone notification sound. It has never done this before, but it makes me so annoyed because I can't distinguish incoming message in messenger app, so I always have to look at my screen to make sure it isn't some important message. I wasn't able to change the sound in the settings like I always did in my Android phones. Any fix, please?

My goal is to have standard "haptic" notification whenever somebody writes me message on FB Messenger, ideally without the actual sound (which is annoying). The problem is that the Apple Watch notification setting seems to be connected to iPhone Messenger Sound setting which turned off (I don't want to hear any sound every time I get new message). This way unfortunately Apple Watch seems to be "muted" as well, that means not even haptic feedback (just banner).

Basically, this is a minor nuisance because every one of the messages will trigger my notification sound. I don't like turning off the notification sound altogether because I do like to know when I get a message from friends and family, I just don't need a message sound for every single one.

I noticed something strange on my iPhone (iOS 14.4.2) related to Facebook messenger. When I receive a first message, i hear the classic Facebook message sound. But if I receive more messages from the same person after that, I hear the phone standard notification sound (the one used for most notifications). My girlfriend observed the same behaviour. Is this a biug of iOS 14?

Dear Apple,After os17 update the notification sound has changed, liked other people are also mentioning and it is becoming very annoying and not able change it make situation more worst. It unnecessarily make us think that what compromise we can face without our consent in the upcoming updates !!

You can make use of the library sounds to change the notification sounds for all contacts. The steps in Android are similar to that of iOS. Android devices offer more options in default sound, whereas you only get a handful of sound selections in iOS.

We already mentioned how you could change the notification sound on Messenger. You may find the sound choices to be limited. This is because these are standard tones provided by mobile phone manufacturers that differ accordingly.

You could technically disable sounds from your device by silencing your device. However, muting your device might not be viable when you still want to receive notification alerts from other apps. To disable the notification sound in Messenger, follow the step below:

iPhone notifications are customizable for some apps, but there are notable exceptions. Customized ringtones and notification sounds help users easily identify a call or notification they receive on their phone. For example, using a different notification tone for Messages and Mail helps users identify which app they've received an alert from without even looking at their phone.

On iPhone, a user can customize notification sounds like text message tones, calendar alarms, and voicemail alerts. Users can also change notification tones for Apple-specific apps like FaceTime and Mail. However, users can't choose custom notification sounds for most third-party apps, which means the default notification sound is the only option they have for non-Apple apps. Most third-party apps just use the iPhone's default alert tone, while some have their own tones built into the apps. Users can, however, turn their notification sound on or off for third-party apps as needed.

To set a custom notification sound, go to Settings and tap on 'Sound & Haptics.' Under 'Sounds and Vibration Patterns,' select the type of notification that needs to be changed. From the menu, choose the sound that needs to be set as the notification sound. Once an option is chosen, users will see a blue check mark next to it. This method enables users to customize ringtones for incoming calls, as well as notification sounds for texts, voicemails, emails, calendar alerts, reminders, and more. Users can also tap on 'Tone Store' to buy a ringtone and use that instead of the available options.

To disable notification sounds for third-party apps, open Settings, tap on 'Notifications' and then select the target app. If sound notifications are available for the app, it will have a toggle switch for 'Sounds' that just requires toggling on or off for the desired result. Meanwhile, Apple's own apps, such as FaceTime, Mail, and Messages allow users to set their own custom notification sounds. To do this, choose the target app under 'Notifications' in Settings. From here, tap on 'Sounds' under 'Alerts' and then select the notification sound from the available options.

Apple doesn't let users change the notification sound for third-party apps on iPhone, but there is a workaround for some of them. This mostly applies to messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, and Slack. These apps have their own notification tones, and users can change the sounds by going into the settings of the individual apps.

For example, to change the notification sound on WhatsApp, open the app, tap 'Settings' and then 'Notifications.' Tap 'Sounds,' and select a sound from the list. When done, tap 'Save.' WhatsApp lets users choose between different notification sounds for messages or groups, and even allows different notification sounds for specific contacts. To change the notification sound on Telegram, go to Settings and tap 'Notifications and Sounds.' From here, users can change the sound for private chats, group chats, or channels.

On Facebook Messenger, tap the profile icon in the top-left corner and tap 'Notifications and sounds.' Tap 'Text tone' and select a sound from the list. Changing the notification tone on Slack is similar. Tap the 'You' tab at the bottom of the screen, tap 'Notifications,' then 'Sound,' and choose a preferred tone. Not all third-party apps offer this feature, but if users want to change notification sounds for a specific app on iPhone, it's worth digging into the app's settings to see if there's an available option. ff782bc1db
