Explore Setting Up Switch Scanning on an iOS Device

Single and multiple switch systems, along with screen scanning, provide computer accessibility for many students with fine and gross motor limitations. Switch access is easy to set up on iOS devices, and can easily be set for single or multiple switch use.

This module is a part of our Game of Access training services, and is designed to provide hands-on experience with the basics of setting up and controlling an iOS device using switch control. The activities include:

Watch the brief demonstration videos. The first video demonstrates how to set up a accessibility shortcut on an iOS device. The second video demonstrates two different switch control systems.
Complete the iOS Scanning Activity. You can follow the instructions in the PDF file onscreen or you can print it out.
Write a summary of your experience and describe what accommodations might be needed by a switch user on an iOS device.
There are lots of ways to customize switch control on an iOS device. The Additional Exploration activity will introduce you to some of these options.

Activity 2 - Complete the "Using the Screen as a Switch Activity" below. You will be setting the iOS device to use a screen tap to simulate a single switch for these activities. Print the document below and follow the step-by-step instructions.
