iOBDScanR Help and FAQ

Operating instructions and tips:

1. Connect your adapter to the OBD port of your car.

2. Turn on the ignition. Do not start the engine.

3. You might need to unlock all the doors in order to communicate with body control modules such as door locks, etc

4. We recommend using adapters which support low-energy Bluetooth® protocol. Typically, Wi-Fi connection is less reliable.

5. Good luck and have fun with your car!

Note on how to set up the connection using WiFi adapters:

Connecting by simply selecting your adapter's WiFi in the Settings is not going to work. iOBDScanR connectivity services as well as iOS's apps such as Weather etc will constantly try to connect to the Internet and disrupt the diagnostic communication.

Instead, follow the steps below to connect to the adapter. They are illustrated by image carousel below as well:

  • First, connect to your adapter's WiFi in a regular way, then click on the row with WiFi network's name
  • Second, you'll need to note IP address and Subnet Mask (highlighted in green) then change IP configuration settings from Auto to Manual (by clicking on Configure IP row (highlighted in red))
  • Check the Manual option on the next screen and enter IP Address and Subnet Mask you noted on the previous screen. Leave the Router field empty then hit Save to get back to previous screen.
  • Press Configure DNS which will again allow you to choose the Manual option. Don't add any servers or search domains and just press Save.
  • After you go back to WiFi settings screen, your WiFi connection will show up as having no internet connection, which is what you want. It will allow iOBDScanR to connect to the adapter while all the services using internet will use cellular connection.
