Port Moody Recreation Complex
Meet your Clinic Coordinator!
Sherry was the recipient of SportMedBC's "2017 Leader of the Year Award"
Clinic Coordinator: Sherry Baker
About Sherry: I have been a runner for over 30 years and understand the importance of having a "doable" training schedule. I enjoy helping people to achieve their goals and have worked with so many that have done just that. I have never started an event/race that I have not completed. I have come back from several injuries and although doctors have told me I would never run again I have completed several 10 km, 1/2 marathons, 14 marathons, 2 - 1/2 Ironman and one full Ironman. I have never been in the fast group but I've always given my best.
How long have you been involved with the InTraining Program? This will be my 15th year
What is your most inspiring InTraining memory? There are so many over the years. From the participant that didn't know that runners should not be tied as tight as skates/working with people that told me the first clinic day that they would not succeed and crossing the finish line with them/watching people change their lives/seeing people go from the walking to the run faster group/having people stay with the walking because they enjoyed it so much/having the best leaders/changing complainers into advocates/receiving the leader of the year award.
Favourite place to run/walk? The trails behind the Port Moody Recreation Complex
What can participants look forward to this year with the Port Moody group? Support and encouragement, starting on time, getting out on the road as soon as possible, homemade cookies, breakfast, draw prizes, making new friends and connecting with old ones,.
What participants have to say about the Port Moody Group:
"This is the first time I have ever done anything like this. If I had tried to do on my own, not sure if I would be ready for the Vancouver Sun Run. The sessions gradually build strength, and combined with the comraderie, positivity & group dynamics, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire program from start to finish! Our Clinic Coordinator, Sherry, was so supportive & encouraging!!! Motivated us all & provided lots of tips, hints & helpful information ." - Amber, Participant
"I joined the Walk10K program in Port Moody, and is my first time to enrol in anything like this...Sherry's positive attitude & enthusiasm always greets us on Saturday mornings. All of the volunteer Leaders are friendly & encouraging - I am so glad that I decided to join the Vancouver Sun Run InTraining Program, and could not have picked a better location or better leaders!" - Port Moody Participant
