Official Web Site: Since 2008, the Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program has been active in Ghana (implemented through 4 basic steps: traceability, training and control from within, development activities, external evaluation) which aims to improve the quality of the grain and the yield of the crop. The objective is to be able to activate the program in all supplier countries by 2020. The palm oil used is certified sustainable. Ongoing commitment to reducing the consumption of water and energy, in Europe and in countries suppliers of raw materials.1

External sources: While the campaign Make Chocolate Fair had been launched in 2015, a report from 2018 says that the conditions of workers have not improved much. In particular, following the dramatic decline in the price of cocoa between September 2016 and February 2017, the poverty rate among farmers had actually increased.2 In 2017 a report of the NGO Mighty Earth denounces the provenance of cocoa in the Ivory Coast from illegal plantations, Lindt being one of the buyers.3

Each bag of cocoa returns a code, which refers to the farmers, it is thus possible to improve their conditions in a more precise and targeted way. The entire process is under control of the parent company, also in order to ensure maximum safety and quality to the final consumer.2
