A student will be able to gain a full-time work experience in business and particularly in the area of supply chain management. Six semester hours of credit are granted for a normal 400 hour internship and three semester hours of credit are granted for a 200 hour internship. Students are encouraged to do the internship during the summer between their junior and senior years of study. Students will work with the Director of the Supply Chain Management Program at Appalachian State University to process the course enrollment formalities. The SCM Program Director will review the job description to approve the internship. The internship coordinator and/or the Director may visit the intern at the company's site. The supervisor of the intern will be requested to evaluate the intern's work and send the evaluation form to the Program Director.
Applications should also provide the initial offer letter provided by the internship employer to the student. A description of the internship, including the objectives, employment window and expected hours, should be provided. The employing firm must provide a significant supply chain work experience with adequate training and supervision of the work performed by the student.
Distribution Requirements Planning \u2013 Executes transactions and tracks movement of products associated with distribution requirement plans, including domestic movements and imports/exports. Ensures that international material movements and tracking information are consistent with regulatory requirements. Serves as the point of contact for issues related to efficient movement of material in support of minimum inventories and specified customer service level. Monitors metrics, conducts root cause analysis and takes corrective actions to address supply movement issues. Assists in resolution of issues related to supply, carrier, ordering and other supply chain issues to execute the distribution requirements plan.
